March HSA Score Distribution: Average score is 80.0/150, higher than last year

On April 2, the Institute of Digital Training and Testing, Hanoi National University announced the score distribution of the Competency Assessment (HSA) exam in March 2025. Accordingly, by the end of March 2025, the exam had organized two consecutive rounds, serving 30,793 candidates, reaching a registration rate of 99.4% for these two rounds.

More than 30,000 candidates took the exam

The 2025 High School Aptitude Assessment (HSA) of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) consists of 3 parts: Part 1 - Mathematics and data processing ( 50 questions, 75 minutes ); Part 2 - Language - Literature ( 50 questions, 60 minutes ); Part 2 - Science ( 50 questions, 60 minutes; choose 3 out of 5 topics: physics, chemistry, history, geography ) or English (50 questions, 60 minutes).

The 2025 Competency Assessment Exam will consist of 6 rounds of exams held from March 15, 2025 to May 18, 2025 in Hanoi, Hai Phong, Thai Binh, Ninh Binh, Nam Dinh, Hung Yen, Hai Duong, Thai Nguyen, Thanh Hoa, and Ha Tinh.

Up to now, the number of candidates registered for the exam is 90,632 applications, of which Hanoi accounts for about 35%, followed by Thai Binh, Thanh Hoa (6%), Nam Dinh, Hai Phong, Hai Duong (5%), Hung Yen, Nghe An, Vinh Phuc, Bac Giang (4%), Bac Ninh, Phu Tho (3%), Ninh Binh, Quang Ninh, Thai Nguyen, Ha Nam, Ha Tinh (2%), the remaining provinces account for 0 - 1%/province.

By the end of March 2025, the exam had organized two consecutive rounds, serving 30,793 candidates, reaching 99.4% of registration for these two rounds; 01 candidate was disciplined and suspended from the exam.

The candidate with the highest score is 130/150

Similar to previous years, the HSA test score distribution of 30,793 candidates taking the test in March 2025 was normally distributed with a median of 80.0/150.

The highest score of the past exams was 130/150 (candidates took the exam in Part 1 - Mathematics and data processing, Part 2 - Language - Literature, Part 3 - Science with 3 topics: Physics, Chemistry and Biology); the lowest was 18/150; the average score was 80.2/150; the standard deviation was 14.6.

Compared to the March exams of previous years, the 2025 exam scores tend to increase slightly (about 3-5 points on a 150-point scale) because candidates can choose the Science or English exam according to their abilities and strengths according to the 2018 General Education Program. Therefore, the admission score based on the HSA exam results in 2025 is expected to be higher than in previous years.

Statistical distribution of the exam, the percentage of candidates achieving ≥ 110/150 is 2.1%; achieving ≥ 105/150 is 2.1%; the score level ≥ 100 is 10.1%; the score level ≥ 90/150 is 27.0%; from 80/150 and above is 51.1%; from 75/150 is 63.4%.

According to statistics, 47.1% of candidates chose English, 16.6% chose Physics - Chemistry - History, 11.3% chose Physics - Chemistry - Biology, 7.4% chose History - Geography - Geography, 5.7% chose History - Geography - Biology, and less than 5% of the remaining combinations took the exam.

The next two exams will take place in April on April 12-13 and April 19-20, 2025 with a registration scale of over 31,000 candidates.
