Deputy Director of Criminal Police Department talks about the lack of transparency in charity appeals

Major General To Cao Lanh said that one of the key tasks of the police force is to grasp the situation and identify the methods and tricks of criminals. Therefore, cases that attract public attention are closely monitored by the Ministry of Public Security and the police of units and localities.

Individuals and organizations calling for support and assistance for people in difficult situations or those with serious illnesses is a noble and humane gesture, in line with Vietnamese tradition.

However, Major General To Cao Lanh said that the mobilization, reception, distribution and use of voluntary contributions to support overcoming difficulties caused by natural disasters, epidemics, incidents; and support patients with serious illnesses must comply with the provisions of Decree No. 93/2021/ND-CP dated October 27, 2021 of the Government.

"The Ministry of Public Security will receive and handle reports of crimes related to violations of the law when individuals and organizations send them," Major General To Cao Lanh affirmed.

The Deputy Director of the Criminal Police Department also advised people to be vigilant, carefully verify information before deciding to make charitable contributions, avoid being taken advantage of by bad guys and scammers; prioritize contributions to reputable charity funds and social organizations, licensed by competent authorities and operating transparently.

In case of detecting signs of lack of transparency or acts of taking advantage of charity calls for fraud, people have the right to request an explanation or report to the authorities for handling, or immediately report the crime to the local police for timely support and handling.
