On March 26, the delegation of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee inspected forest management in Que Phong and Tuong Duong districts. The delegation was chaired by Mr. Nguyen Van De - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; accompanied by representatives of the Department of Agriculture and Environment; Forest Protection Department, and Forest Protection and Development Fund.

High forest cover rate
Que Phong district has a total natural area of over 188,842 hectares. Of which, the area with forests and non-forested trees is over 153,874 hectares, including over 35,809 hectares of special-use forests, over 46,249 hectares of protective forests, and over 71,815 hectares of production forests and forests outside the forestry planning. The forest coverage rate in 2024 will reach 77.65%.

Major forest owners in the area include: Pu Hoat Nature Reserve manages more than 85,761 hectares; Pu Huong Nature Reserve manages more than 4,396 hectares; Que Phong Forestry is assigned to manage more than 2,397 hectares; Thanh Thanh Dat Limited Liability Company manages more than 2,045 hectares; Que Phong Rubber Farm manages 2,200 hectares.

In Que Phong district, up to now, more than 1,000 hectares of cinnamon have been planted, mainly in the communes: Thong Thu more than 350 hectares, Nam Giai more than 115 hectares, Tien Phong more than 35 hectares, Hanh Dich commune more than 41 hectares, Chau Thon about 195 hectares, Dong Van more than 110 hectares, Nam Nhoong more than 95 hectares, Chau Kim more than 65 hectares... Of which, the area of cinnamon over 10 years old is about 150 hectares, from 5 to 10 years old is 620 hectares and from 1 to 5 years old is about 280 hectares.

For passion fruit, currently in Tri Le commune there are 2 projects: Project to invest in building a high-tech passion fruit nursery garden, with an area of over 10,651m2 and the high-tech passion fruit nursery project (expansion), with area over 48,664m2 .

However, forest management and protection in Tuong Duong district still has limitations: The situation of destroying natural forests to get land for production; illegal exploitation, storage, trading, and transportation of forest products and wild animals on a small scale still occurs.

Localities pay attention to forest fire prevention
Visiting production models in localities, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Van De requested Pu Hoat Nature Reserve to ensure the yield and quality of Quỳ cinnamon varieties, so that Que Phong district can continue to plant and develop local cinnamon trees, considering this a tree to eliminate hunger and reduce poverty for the people.

Working with Nafoods Passion Fruit Joint Stock Company (under Nafoods Group), Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Van De hopes that the unit, in parallel with expanding the high-tech pineapple area in Quynh Luu, Yen Thanh and Que Phong, will invest in a pineapple processing factory to ensure the consumption of all pineapple products for farmers.
Currently, Nafoods Passion Fruit Joint Stock Company has planted 113 hectares of high-tech pineapple, with plans to plant 1,000 hectares of pineapple in the coming years in Tri Le commune and produce 10 million passion fruit seedlings each year, creating jobs for dozens of local workers with stable income.

Through field inspections in localities, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Van De highly appreciated the forest protection and management work of Que Phong and Tuong Duong districts. The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee noted that the province is currently entering the hot season, with complicated weather conditions.
