Tet movies are always cultural products that audiences look forward to every New Year. In particular, the use of old settings and nostalgic materials is becoming popular in most Vietnamese movies shown during Tet in 2024.

Movies aimed at nostalgia
After two consecutive Tet films in the horror and psychological genres, Nha Khong Ban and Vong Nhi , director Hoang Tuan Cuong introduces to the audience a 2024 Tet film project called Sang Den , set from the 1990s to the 2000s.
Through the film's poster, the director wants to bring a nostalgic feel, tinged with time with people and props that remind people of the golden age of cai luong theater troupes.
The film brings together a cast of veteran actors such as: People's Artist Hong Van, Meritorious Artist Huu Chau... In addition to the touching story, the film also conveys the cultural features of the South and incorporates many classic cai luong excerpts.
Set in the 1990s, the film Meet the Pregnant Sister revolves around the youth of young people passionate about cinema and acting.
Through the trailer longer than 2 minutes, director Nhat Trung recreated famous locations such as: CD stores, childhood snack shops; means of transportation such as Cub 50, vans... familiar and full of memories.
The once-famous songs from Lan Song Xanh and singers at that time such as Dan Truong were also featured in the film, making middle-aged audiences recall a glorious youth.
Director Nhat Trung said that over time, Tet films have changed a lot in terms of making. Previously, films only focused on humorous and happy content, but now, in addition to laughter, they also need to have depth, intimacy and a clear message that touches the viewer's emotions.
However, Tet films mainly revolve around the theme of family, so it is difficult to innovate. Therefore, filmmakers aim for nostalgia to convey to viewers the traditional Tet scene of the past, helping the audience to reminisce about what happened when they were young with their parents.
Following the historic success of Mrs. Nu's House at the Vietnamese box office during the 2023 Tet film season with a revenue of 475 billion VND, director and actor Tran Thanh continues to announce this year's Tet film called Mai . The film is scheduled to premiere on February 10 (the first day of Tet) at theaters nationwide.
Although the story is not set in the 1990s like Sang Den or Gap Lai Chi Bau , the film Mai evokes a sense of nostalgia for the past through the main setting image of the old An Binh apartment building with its unique architecture, bearing the ancient colors of the old years.
Duong's house in the film has a classic style, Mai's house has a skylight - a typical feature in large apartment buildings. In the film, Tran Thanh plays a role that is over 60 years old.
Although the film industry is facing many difficulties at this time, artists are still trying to make sure that audiences do not feel a lack of entertainment during Tet.
As a director, Tran Thanh shared: “This is the project that I have devoted the most effort and passion to up to this point. I hope that the film Mai will be well received by audiences not only domestically but also in other markets; and will also be present at international film festivals.”
The web series is highly anticipated by many audiences.
Besides movies shown in theaters, many audiences are looking forward to web-dramas during Tet. This year, the first web-drama series is Uncle Cuc , released on the YouTube channel Huynh Lap Official at 8:00 p.m. on January 30.

According to actor Huynh Lap, bringing to the audience products filled with laughter but full of humanistic meaning has always been one of the top criteria on his path to pursuing the arts and entertainment industry.
The actor hopes that the audience will understand the many messages he wants to convey through the film and continue to love and accompany him through the film as well as many products in 2024.
The "race" for online movies during Tet 2024 is getting hotter with the participation of a series of famous artists, including many new names.
Specifically: What's wrong with Tet ? is a project co-produced by actress Ngoc Thanh Tam and director Neko Le. The film revolves around a hot topic of the year: livestream, Ngoc Thanh Tam plays the role of a sought-after "livestream queen".
