The documentary VTV Special - The Historical Broadcast takes the audience back to the unforgettable days of the nation in 1975, with the event of Vietnam Television signals being broadcast throughout the South using the old regime's television system. It is not only a story about the special marching groups of Vietnam Television at that time, but more importantly, it is also a symbol of the spirit of national reconciliation.

Marking the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025), Vietnam Television has produced many special programs, which have been invested in meticulously and carefully, mobilizing the total resources of many units in the spirit of creative exploration, ensuring solemn content, conveying meaningful messages. One of the projects that was deployed early was the documentary film Historical Broadcast under the VTV Special project. The film is a story about the broadcast of Vietnam Television on the evening of May 1, 1975 in Saigon, but the core is the wise strategy of the Southern expansion of the leaders of the Radio and Television Commission on taking over Saigon Television. Along with that were cross-country trips by many groups of Vietnam Television reporters to gather in Saigon on April 30, 1975 and air on May 1, 1975.

"The documentary The Historical Broadcast has a different approach compared to many programs aiming to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and the reunification of the country. The story both demonstrates the role of Vietnam Television on the Liberation of the South on April 30 and shows the spirit of this historic victory," Director, People's Artist Nguyen Hoang Lam - Deputy Head of the Special Topics - Science and Education Department, Vietnam Television shared.

Before April 1975, among the troops heading south with the spirit of readiness for the liberation of the beloved South, there were special marching groups of Vietnam Television. Members were excellent editors and technicians who had gathered in the North before, their mission was to make sure that the television program of Vietnam Television at 58 Quan Su at that time was broadcast in the South as soon as possible. This bold and highly political policy was carefully prepared by the heads of the Radio and Television Committee and the leaders of the Radio and Television Department. During the trip across the country, the marching groups of Vietnam Television carried out specific tasks: Making reports, news, and articles about the stormy advance of the main force; Taking over and handing over the old regime's radio and television facilities to the local Military Management Board (in case a locality was liberated); Develop a plan to assemble and set up a broadcasting station on the top of Ba Den Mountain (Tay Ninh) to broadcast television programs produced in Hanoi directly to the center of Saigon; Study the technical infrastructure of Saigon Television Station currently in use to take over immediately after successful liberation, using Saigon Television Station itself to broadcast programs produced by Vietnam Television.

The result of those campaigns was the excellent achievement of three out of four specific tasks, only the task of building a broadcasting station at Ba Den Mountain was not carried out because the South was completely liberated on April 30, 1975, Vietnam Television took over Hue Radio and Television Station and the Republic of Vietnam's relay stations in Da Nang, Quy Nhon and Nha Trang.

On the evening of May 1, 1975, the signal of Vietnam Television was broadcast throughout the South using the old regime's television system. What was the story about the efforts of the Vietnam Television troops at that time? What was the support of the officers and employees of Saigon Television Station like? How did the people of Saigon support Vietnam Television and the Liberation Army at that time? These issues were analyzed and answered in the VTV Special documentary - The Historical Broadcast.

Accordingly, the story of the historic broadcast will be clarified through many historical documents, current footage and testimonies from both sides, such as: cameraman Nguyen Van Vinh; journalist Huynh Van Tieng - former Head of Vietnam Television; cameraman Pham Viet Tung - one of the people present in the Television army from North to South; architect Nguyen Huu Thai - the person who created the first news bulletin of Voice of Vietnam on April 30, 1975, and also the person who supported students to protect Saigon Television Station while waiting for the revolutionary army to take over...

The film is scheduled to air VTV Special: The Historical Broadcast at 8:10 p.m. on May 1 on VTV1 channel.
