Kaity Nguyen will be the main actress in the Vietnamese version of the movie “Love by mistake for a best friend”, a remake of the Thai movie “Friendzone”. The movie is expected to premiere on the first day of Lunar New Year 2025.
On August 27, the film crew of the Vietnamese version of the film project "Love by mistake for a best friend" officially started filming, marking the beginning of the film's production process.
“Love the wrong best friend” is a remake of the famous Thai film “Friendzone”, with content revolving around the ironic love story between two best friends of the opposite sex.
In addition to the female lead role that "Thai cinema goddess" Baifern Pimchanok once played, Kaity Nguyen also took on the role of Creative Director, contributing to the creative process and shaping the film's style.
“Love by mistake best friend” is about the love between two best friends of the opposite sex who always miss opportunities to be together. The film takes place across Southeast Asia, in which Chi Pu appeared in the film's OST MV alongside many other famous singers in Southeast Asia.
As Creative Director, Kaity Nguyen shared: “I think it’s been a long time since Vietnamese cinema has had a true rom-com project. The original script was already interesting, after 5 years we will update it to suit the times and the Vietnamese market. The film will be filmed in many places across Vietnam so the audience will enjoy many beautiful scenes of the country with us.”
Joining Kaity is actor Tran Ngoc Vang. He has made his mark through diverse roles, from the “good vampire” in “The Sun People” to the scheming villain in “On the drinking table, under the plotting table”.
Tran Ngoc Vang also shared that he was very excited about his first collaboration with Kaity Nguyen, director Diep The Vinh and director Nguyen Quang Dung. “I also really love the original and see 80% of myself in the male lead character, so since watching the original I thought if there was a remake, I would like to take on the male lead role. I am so happy that the two directors chose me for this project.”
The project “Love by mistake best friend” is in charge of the visual part by veteran DOP Diep The Vinh, this is also the first movie he tries his hand at this new role. Diep The Vinh said: “I have been in the profession for more than 20 years, accompanied by seniors like Trinh Hoan and Nguyen Quang Dung and they encouraged me to try my hand at the position of director. This is the moment when I feel that my 20 years of preparation are about to turn into expected results. At the same time, I also thank Galaxy Studio, HK Film, Tran Thanh Town and KAT House trusted and accompanied me in this project".
Co-directing with Diep The Vinh is director Nguyen Quang Dung. The two directors have worked together on many projects. Nguyen Quang Dung said that out of his 11 films, 10 were in collaboration with director Diep The Vinh in many roles and saw the director's qualities in Diep The Vinh. And Nguyen Quang Dung will play the role of a bridge in his close friend's first film project, and he also expressed interest in a romantic film for young Vietnamese people.
The Vietnamese version of "Love by mistake" brings a sweet yet humorous love, along with beautiful scenery across Vietnam, promising to stir up the 2025 Tet movie season.
