(Dan Tri) - Since temporarily "putting away" her car and switching to taking the Metro to work, Ms. Phuong Dung has not only saved nearly 200,000 VND on gas, parking, etc. every day, but also arrived at work with a refreshed spirit.
Leaving her car to take the Metro, the girl was surprised at how much she saved (Performed by: Cam Tien).
Ms. Le Phuong Dung (32 years old, Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City) is an employee of a media company in District 10. Every day, she goes to work in the morning and comes home when the sun has set. Living quite far from the company, every morning, Ms. Dung has to weave through the crowded traffic to go to work, inevitably feeling stressed and tired. Since Metro Line 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) officially came into operation, Ms. Dung has had a new means of transportation to go to work. In recent days, the feeling of not having to worry about traffic jams has made her feel more comfortable and relaxed. Not in a hurry, Ms. Dung also found that the breakfast she cooked was more delicious than usual.
In the morning, Ms. Dung leisurely cooks and packs breakfast into boxes, then changes clothes to prepare for work. Putting her high heels in her bag, wearing flat sandals for convenience, Ms. Dung leaves the house and walks to the Metro station. Previously, she had to drive her car 13-14km from home to the company. Because she travels during rush hour, she always has to leave work nearly an hour earlier than her working time, and at the same time, concentrate highly while driving.
"Since Metro Line 1 came into operation, I am very happy because I know the way to work is easier, so I decided to temporarily put my car away and go by Metro. From home, I only need to walk about 200m to the pedestrian bridge across Hanoi Highway, leading to Thu Duc station to get on the train," Ms. Dung shared. Ms. Dung said that she really likes public transportation because it is convenient and environmentally friendly. However, buses do not meet the needs of time and work, so for many years, Ms. Dung has had to use her own car. Switching to Metro to work, Ms. Dung saved a fair amount of money, because by car, she spends about 200,000 VND/day on gas, toll booth fees and parking. In addition, Ms. Dung said that taking Metro helps her practice the habit of walking every day to improve her health. "In the past few days, Metro No. 1 has served people for free, so I can go in and out of the gate comfortably without having to buy a ticket. In the near future, the Metro ticket price is expected to be 300,000 VND/month, still very cheap, only equal to the cost of 2-3 sessions of parking my car at work," Ms. Dung said. Normally, if she drives to work, it takes Ms. Dung about 45 minutes to get to the company. Meanwhile, there is a Metro train every 8-10 minutes and the time from Thu Duc station to Ben Thanh station is only about 20 minutes. The travel time is not shortened too much, but Ms. Dung feels more leisurely because she does not have to worry about traffic jams.
Ms. Dung commented that the train ran quite smoothly, so during the train ride she could check some work on the phone before arriving at work. "Normally I have to stress about driving, now I just need to enjoy the cool space on the train, a little breeze and I'll be there in a moment," she said. According to Ms. Dung, in recent days, Metro trips between 8am and 10am have been quite crowded. Many office workers also take advantage of this means of transportation to get to work. About 20 minutes by train, Ms. Dung got off the train at Ben Thanh Station (District 1), about 2km from her workplace. Ben Thanh Station was very bustling, with many people going to work by train and also many people coming to experience and take check-in photos with the city's new means of transportation .
Ms. Dung continues to book a technology motorbike taxi to go to work. Currently, many technology motorbike companies also offer travel cost incentives if the customer's starting point or destination is a Metro station. "It only takes me about 5 minutes to travel from Ben Thanh station to the company. The distance is short, so in the past few days, my technology motorbike taxi fare has always been 0 VND. In the near future, when the incentive program ends, the technology motorbike taxi fare for this route will only fluctuate from 10,000 VND to 15,000 VND," Ms. Dung said. Since having Metro, Ms. Dung has saved time, money and ensured energy when going to work. Not only that, she also feels excited because after work, she can comfortably hang out with friends in the city center districts by technology car and then return home by Metro. "Metro is a green solution of Ho Chi Minh City, helping people save costs and time. I am also waiting for Metro line 2 to come into operation, making the city's traffic more convenient," Ms. Dung shared.
