These days, pilots of the Air Defense - Air Force ( Ministry of National Defense ) are practicing for the welcoming flight of the Vietnam International Defense Exhibition 2024 at Kep airport (Lang Giang district, Bac Giang ).
The Vietnam International Defense Exhibition 2024 will take place from December 19 to 22 at Gia Lam Airport (Hanoi). During the opening ceremony, the Vietnam Air Force will perform a welcome flight with 7 Su-30MK2 fighter jets and Mi helicopters. In particular, the welcome flight of the Su-30MK2 fighters will include somersaults, multiple twists in the air, vertical tightening, flying in formations of 3 and 4 aircraft at close range and low altitude...
To prepare for those flights, these days, at Kep airport, hundreds of pilots, officers, and technicians of Regiment 927 (Division 371, Air Defense - Air Force, Ministry of National Defense) are busy preparing to carry out the mission.
Prepare 1 day before each flight
According to Thanh Nien , from early morning, the technical team was present at the aircraft hangar to carry out preparations, technical checks... to ensure the aircraft operated stably during the mission.
According to Mr. Phan Duc Thiep, Deputy Technical Squadron Leader of Squadron 1, Regiment 927, before each flight, the technical team must have a plan and prepare 1 day in advance. The technical team will carry out technological procedures according to the manufacturer's instructions as well as strengthen other measures according to the instructions and guidance of superiors to ensure the aircraft is safe, well-used, durable and most economical through 4 stages.
"On the day of the flight, we will have to check the aircraft in general, set the initial parameters, and install the equipment according to the aircraft's flight mission. After the aircraft rolls back to the parking lot, we will receive feedback from the pilot about the flight process to see if there are any damages, as well as any incorrect parameters. After that, we will check and prepare for the next flights," said Mr. Thiep.

According to Mr. Thiep, this is the second time he has participated in the task of serving flights at the Vietnam International Defense Exhibition. The difference this year compared to last year is that there are more participating aircraft and the workload is more complicated. Therefore, the technical team always closely maintains all technological processes to ensure the best aircraft, participating in the most beautiful performances.
Determined to bring the image of Vietnam Air Force to international friends
Meanwhile, Major Nguyen Van Hai, Deputy Squadron Leader, Chief of Staff of Squadron 1, Regiment 927, shared that to prepare for the flight to welcome the exhibition, he and his teammates had prepared in advance for the flight by studying the theory of flying in formations of 3 and 4 aircraft, flying at medium and low altitudes. In addition, they had done a good job of preparing for navigation. Especially studying the regulations on the location, terrain, and topography of Gia Lam airport area and the exhibition flight area.
As the pilot of the 8576 fighter, Major Hai felt happy, honored and proud to participate in the mission of flying to welcome the exhibition, joining the spirit of the entire army and armed forces on the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army, the 35th anniversary of the National Defense Day. However, to complete the mission, he and his teammates also had to overcome many difficulties.
According to Major Hai, the most difficult thing for pilots is the complex maneuvers with large formations, at close range, narrow spacing, low and very low altitudes. To perform this flight, pilots need to control the aircraft evenly, unifying the gears so that when flying, it will create a uniform and beautiful trajectory.
In addition, when cold air flows in, the northeast monsoon will affect meteorological conditions or the cloud base is often low, limiting visibility, significantly affecting pilots.
"Therefore, we are very determined to complete our mission well, so that friends around the world as well as people across the country can see the image of the Vietnam Air Force in everyone's eyes as beautiful, strong and spirited," said Major Hai.
After the meeting and health check, the pilots headed to the aircraft area.
