On the morning of September 7, Quang Ngai Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital announced that the hospital's doctors had successfully performed surgery on a premature baby weighing 1.1 kg. After the surgery, the patient was cared for in the Neonatal Pediatrics Department. The patient's health and vital signs were stable, he was breastfeeding well, the surgical wound was dry, and he had normal bowel movements.
Surgeon for pediatric patient with duodenal obstruction
Previously, on the evening of August 25, Quang Ngai Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital received a 3-hour-old newborn transferred from Tra Bong District Medical Center (Quang Ngai) in a premature, low-weight condition.
The baby was then transferred to the Neonatal Pediatrics Department for further monitoring. Through ultrasound and clinical examination, the baby was diagnosed with duodenal obstruction, sepsis, malnutrition, and neonatal jaundice.
Doctors from the departments of Surgery, Neonatal, and Anesthesia and Resuscitation Surgery consulted and successfully performed duodenal obstruction surgery on this child.
Speaking to Thanh Nien reporter, Dr. Pham Xuan Duy, Head of Surgery Department, Quang Ngai Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, said that the surgery was difficult because the patient was too small, weighing just over 1 kg. However, the surgery was successful. It is known that during the entire pregnancy, this mother only had one prenatal check-up.
“Pregnant women need to undergo all important ultrasounds and screening tests during pregnancy to detect any abnormalities in the fetus early. They need to go to a hospital with an obstetrics department to give birth,” Dr. Duy advised.
