40 years ago, Ms. N. went to the doctor and discovered a thyroid tumor, but was afraid so she did not have surgery. Recently, the tumor pressed down, causing discomfort, difficulty breathing, and difficulty swallowing, so she went to Binh Dinh Hospital for examination.
Here, the doctor ordered a CT scan of the neck, recording a goiter occupying the entire left lobe, measuring 7x8 cm, compressing the upper mediastinum, pushing the trachea and esophagus to the right on the basis of an elderly patient with cardiovascular disease... Because the goiter was too large, affecting the patient, the doctors decided to perform surgery to remove it.

The surgical team coordinated with specialties including: Anesthesia, Cardiology and Oncology to control blood pressure, blood sugar, thyroid hormones, heart rate, and prevent complications.
Then, the doctors used the Ligasure knife to seal the vessels during surgery. This device helps minimize blood loss and can clearly expose important related structures such as: carotid artery, jugular vein, recurrent laryngeal nerve... The surgery lasted more than 40 minutes, the surgical team was extremely careful and meticulous, dissecting and removing the thyroid tumor for patient N.
Specialist Doctor Nguyen Duc Thang, Department of Oncology, Binh Dinh Hospital, said that Mr. N. had a large goiter that compressed the structures of the airway, trachea, esophagus, jugular vein, and also hung down to the mediastinum. A large goiter has many increased blood vessels, which can easily cause complications during surgery such as: bleeding, difficulty in intubation, possible acute respiratory failure, damage to the structure of organs in the neck area, etc. The patient may have hoarseness or loss of voice after surgery.
After surgery, patient N. was monitored in the recovery room, his health was stable, and his voice was not hoarse. The patient was discharged from the hospital 2 days after surgery.
