Developing concentrated production areas

(Baothanhhoa.vn) - With the goal of improving economic efficiency per unit area and increasing income for people, localities in the province have actively accumulated and concentrated land, transformed crop structures to build concentrated production areas associated with value chains. From there, gradually overcoming the situation of people abandoning farming, scattered and fragmented land, contributing to sustainable agricultural development.

Developing concentrated production areas

Vegetable production area is concentrated in Xuan Lai commune (Tho Xuan).

In Nam Giang commune, Dong Ngau area is considered a typical example in the movement to change crop structure. This area used to be a low-lying area, often flooded, rice cultivation often encountered risks, and the economic efficiency was not high. In 2012, the People's Committee of the commune encouraged and supported people to accumulate and concentrate land, converting 35 hectares to form a concentrated farm area. Ms. Le Thi Oanh, one of the farm owners here, said: "When the commune had a policy to plan Dong Ngau area to develop farm economy, my family invested in digging ponds, building banks, building a system of barns to raise pigs and egg-laying chickens; surrounding the barns are fish ponds and planting more fruit trees such as grapefruit, custard apple, lemon... to create a landscape for the farm and protect the livestock environment". Currently, Dong Ngau concentrated farm area has 12 households investing in production; creating regular jobs for about 50 workers with an average income of 5 - 7 million VND/person/month... In recent years, to create conditions for people to expand production scale, along with the supported budget, the commune has invested in building works such as: Transformer stations, medium and low voltage lines... At the same time, establishing Dong Ngau Crops and Livestock Cooperative, aiming to link and produce products according to VietGAP... to serve consumers.

The accumulation and concentration of land in Nam Giang commune in particular and Tho Xuan district in general have created great changes in production; contributed to the formation of a number of production areas with large concentrated areas such as: Rice production areas with high productivity, quality and efficiency; export crop growing areas; safe vegetable, root and fruit production in greenhouses; fruit tree growing areas; farms combined with aquaculture... Since then, people and businesses have boldly invested in infrastructure, built greenhouse systems, applied closed cage technology, used oxygenators in aquaculture ponds; synchronous mechanization application... In addition, the district has also focused on investing, renovating and upgrading essential infrastructure, especially the traffic system, to facilitate the circulation of goods, transportation of materials and feed for livestock farming... In addition, in the concentrated livestock farming area, farms have also linked and consumed products with businesses, such as Phu Gia Agricultural Products Joint Stock Company, Hien Nhuan Production and Trading Company Limited...

With many solutions, Vinh Loc district has focused on developing key products of each locality, associated with exploiting comparative advantages. During the implementation process, it has partly changed the way of thinking and working of people about land accumulation and concentration, crop restructuring to develop large-scale agriculture , concentrated commodity production associated with product consumption linkage. Up to now, the district has formed high-yield and high-quality rice areas, citrus fruit growing areas, concentrated safe vegetable production areas, and pink banana production areas...

In most localities in the province, concentrated production areas have gradually been formed; large-scale areas such as: Intensive rice farming areas, raw sugarcane areas, concentrated fruit tree areas, safe vegetable production areas... Tho Xuan, Yen Dinh, Hoang Hoa districts... have formed specialized production areas for sweet corn, squash, green onions. Yen Dinh, Tho Xuan, Nhu Thanh districts... have areas for growing animal feed crops associated with concentrated dairy farming...

In order to develop sustainable concentrated agricultural production areas, the province has surveyed the characteristics of each locality, thereby issuing many appropriate incentive and support mechanisms and policies, especially policies to support infrastructure investment, meeting the requirements of large-scale commodity production. At the same time, it creates favorable conditions and supports businesses and people to accumulate and concentrate land, invest in production... Through the construction of concentrated agricultural production areas, people are more confident in converting backward farming methods to developing commodity production, contributing to creating quality products and increasing competitiveness, especially products that have been branded and developed in the market. Thereby, contributing to changing people's thinking, improving their production level, creating conditions for synchronous mechanization, science and technology; economic efficiency is increased compared to small-scale production.
