Promoting the role of the elderly in patriotic emulation movements

Attending the conference were comrades: Hoang Duy Chinh, member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation; Nong Quang Nhat, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; representatives of leaders of departments and branches; delegates who are former leaders of the Provincial Elderly Association, officials of the Elderly Association at all levels and 43 delegates who are typical elderly collectives and individuals in the emulation movement "Old age - Bright example".

Over the years, the activities of the Association of the Elderly have become increasingly practical and effective. The elderly are promptly cared for in the areas of: material and spiritual life and health care. The role of the elderly is promoted in participating in building the political system at the grassroots level, developing traditional cultural values of the nation, developing the economy, protecting the environment, building new rural areas and civilized urban areas.

With many innovations in the method of operation, a large number of elderly people have joined the Association. From 2021 to 2024, the Association has admitted 7,101 members, bringing the total number of members in the province to 35,658 people/40,282 elderly people, accounting for 88.5%; operating in 108 grassroots Elderly Associations, 959 branches, and 9 association groups.

Provincial leaders presented flowers to congratulate the successes of the Elderly Association at all levels in the emulation movement "Old age - Bright example".

The Association of the Elderly at all levels has advised and coordinated with all levels, sectors, and mass organizations to protect, care for the health, material life, and spiritual life of the elderly, playing a core role in the movement "The whole people care for, support, and promote the role of the elderly". In the past 4 years, the Association of the Elderly at all levels has coordinated with medical facilities to organize periodic health check-ups for 60,816 elderly people; established health management books for more than 38,000 elderly people; 30,000 elderly people were examined and consulted on eye diseases. The whole province has 228 clubs attracting 7,984 elderly people to participate, including 38 intergenerational self-help clubs, 36 health care clubs, 161 cultural, artistic, and sports clubs; 194 elderly households had their temporary houses removed. Currently, there are 5,744 elderly people receiving monthly social allowances.

The Association at all levels takes the lead in advising local Party committees and authorities to organize longevity celebrations for the elderly in accordance with the law. The elderly in the area actively participate in economic development, environmental protection, new rural construction, maintaining social order and security, and promoting learning and talent.

Promoting the achieved results, in the period of 2025 - 2030, implementing the emulation movement "Old age - Bright example", the Provincial Association of the Elderly sets out many specific goals: Gathering 90% or more of the elderly into the Association; Strive for over 80% of grassroots Association organizations and 85% of members to achieve the title "Old age - Bright example"; 100% of district-level Association officials, over 90% of grassroots Association officials of the Elderly are trained and fostered in Association work skills; 100% of communes, wards and towns maintain regular activities of the Fund for caring for and promoting the role of the elderly, striving to reach an average of 10 million VND/commune/year or more; maintain and develop the fund base according to regulations; 100% of the Association of the Elderly have various types of Elderly Clubs...

Speaking at the conference, comrade Hoang Duy Chinh, member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation, acknowledged and commended the achievements of the Elderly Association at all levels in the past time. He hoped that the Elderly Association at all levels would continue to propagate to members and descendants the policy of streamlining the apparatus and merging the province; mobilize members to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses; the Association at all levels would innovate the content and methods of operation to attract the participation of the elderly, care for the material and spiritual life of the elderly; promote the role of the elderly in patriotic emulation movements; promptly commend and reward exemplary individuals and groups...

On this occasion, 09 groups and 08 individuals were awarded Certificates of Merit by the People's Committee of Bac Kan province; 26 individuals and groups were awarded Certificates of Merit by the Bac Kan Provincial Elderly Association for their outstanding achievements in the patriotic emulation movement "Old age - Bright example"./.
