Heroic tradition, heroic land

On December 22, 1944, the Vietnam Propaganda Liberation Army - the predecessor of the Vietnam People's Army - was born, marking a historic turning point in the struggle for national liberation.

With 34 soldiers, under the leadership of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh , the Vietnam Propaganda Liberation Army quickly matured, becoming a revolutionary army "born from the people, fighting for the people".

Throughout the 80-year journey of building, fighting and growing up, the tradition of "being loyal to the Party, filial to the people, and ready to fight and sacrifice for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland" has always been the guiding principle for generations of military officers and soldiers.

The Vietnam People's Army has made its mark in the resistance wars against colonialism and imperialism, protecting national independence and the sovereignty of the sacred territory, airspace and sea of ​​the Fatherland. The historic victories of Dien Bien Phu (1954), the Great Spring Victory (1975), victories in the wars to protect the border, fulfill international duties... are clear evidence of the heroic fighting spirit, strategy and indomitable will of the Vietnamese army and people.

Along with the task of protecting the Fatherland, our army is also the pioneer force in participating in the construction, socio-economic development, rescue, and helping people in preventing and overcoming the consequences of natural disasters, storms, floods, and epidemics. The image of Uncle Ho's soldiers is always engraved in the hearts of the people, becoming a symbol of patriotism, sacrifice, and constant dedication.

Hai Duong, a province located in the center of the Northern Delta, has an important strategic position and is a land rich in patriotic and revolutionary traditions. During the resistance wars, the people of Hai Duong united, fought bravely, and contributed human and material resources to the common cause of the nation.

During the resistance war against French colonialism, Hai Duong was the site of many fierce battles, typically the "thunder of Route 5", the victory at Pha Lai, Cau Han...

During the resistance war against American imperialism, Hai Duong people actively participated in movements such as "Three ready" and "Five volunteer" movements, providing human and material support to the South.

In the cause of national liberation struggle, defending the Fatherland and fulfilling noble international duties, Hai Duong had more than 300,000 young people joining the army, over 100,000 young volunteers and frontline laborers on all battlefields.

During those struggles, there were 38,941 martyrs from Hai Duong who heroically sacrificed; 21,962 wounded soldiers, 10,483 sick soldiers; 41 people were awarded the title of Hero of the Armed Forces, 3,643 resistance fighters were captured and imprisoned by the enemy. Many people were infected with toxic chemicals/dioxin, leaving long-term consequences for their descendants...

In the rear, thousands of heroic Vietnamese mothers, wives and children have become spiritual support, having to accept loss and pain so that people on the front lines can fight and defeat the enemy.

Entering the period of innovation in building and defending the Fatherland, Hai Duong continues to promote its heroic tradition, strengthen local defense and military work, contributing to building a strong national defense, maintaining political stability and social order and safety. Achievements in local defense and military work of Hai Duong are prominent.

The province has focused on building a solid national defense posture associated with a solid people's security posture, suitable to local conditions, meeting the requirements of protecting the Fatherland in the new situation.

The defense zone system has been strengthened, key defense projects have been upgraded and newly built, ensuring readiness to respond to complex situations. The province regularly organizes defense zone drills, mobilizing the participation of armed forces and people. The drills not only improve command and control capacity but also train coordination between forces in the defense zone.

Hai Duong has always focused on national defense and security education, and implemented it extensively and effectively. Every year, the province organizes national defense training courses for members of the political system and all cadres, party members, and people of all walks of life. Thereby, patriotism and a sense of responsibility for the homeland and country are strongly aroused.

In schools, national defense and security education is implemented vividly and effectively, helping students understand their rights, responsibilities and obligations towards their homeland and country. Extracurricular activities such as visiting historical sites and interacting with veterans are also organized, contributing to arousing patriotism in the younger generation.

Hai Duong also always cares about and does a good job of taking care of and building local armed forces.

Thanks to that, Hai Duong armed forces are increasingly strong in all aspects, from politics, ideology to organization. The work of selecting and calling citizens to join the army always meets 100% of the target, ensuring quality.

The Party Committee and the Provincial Military Command always pay attention to training and improving the qualifications of officers and soldiers. The emulation movement to win and the Campaign "Promoting tradition, dedicating talent, worthy of being Uncle Ho's soldiers" are widely deployed, encouraging agencies and units to promote creativity and excellently complete assigned tasks.

Hai Duong has done a good job of combining socio-economic development with strengthening national defense and security. Projects for developing transport, industrial and agricultural infrastructure are all planned in accordance with national defense requirements, especially those of the defense sector.

The military forces stationed in the area also actively participate in building new rural areas, supporting people in economic development, and responding to natural disasters and epidemics. Typical examples include the prevention of the Covid-19 epidemic and overcoming the consequences of storm No. 3 (Yagi).

The province regularly cares for the lives of officers and soldiers, and implements well the military and military rear policies. Activities of visiting, giving gifts, and building gratitude houses for families of war invalids, martyrs, and people with revolutionary contributions are always carefully organized, demonstrating the nation's morality of "When drinking water, remember its source".

In the coming years, the world and regional situation is forecast to continue to have complex and unpredictable developments. World and regional peace and security are being threatened by the trend of “multipolarity, multicenter” and the increasingly present arms race. Hostile, reactionary and opportunistic political forces are intensifying their “peaceful evolution” activities, demanding the “depoliticization” of the armed forces, with increasingly sophisticated, open and direct sabotage plots and tricks. Therefore, the task of protecting the socialist Vietnamese Fatherland always poses new requirements.

Firstly, strengthen the Party's leadership over local defense and military work. Hai Duong identifies that the Party's leadership is the decisive factor for success in all defense and military tasks. Party committees and organizations at all levels need to continue to thoroughly grasp and seriously implement the resolutions and directives of the Central and the province on defense and security.

Second, improve the quality of training and combat readiness. The armed forces need to continue to innovate training content and methods to suit the requirements and tasks in the new situation. It is necessary to focus on investing in modern equipment, increasing the application of science and technology in drills, building flexible and effective combat plans to respond well to unexpected situations.

Third, promote the role of the people in building a national defense. Hai Duong will promote mass mobilization work, building a solid "people's hearts and minds position". Social security policies and care for people's lives need to be implemented synchronously, contributing to strengthening people's trust in the Party, government and army.

Fourth, promote national defense and security education for the young generation. It is necessary to continue to innovate the content and methods of national defense education for students, in order to arouse patriotism and a sense of responsibility in protecting the Fatherland.

Fifth, closely combine socio-economic development with national defense consolidation. Hai Duong continues to develop its economy in a sustainable manner, ensuring harmony with the requirements of national defense consolidation. In all socio-economic development plans, attention must be paid to placing national defense and security tasks in a commensurate position. Industrial zones and urban areas need to be planned in accordance with the requirements of ensuring national security, building the province into a solid defense zone.

The 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army is an opportunity for Hai Duong province to proudly look back on the past journey, and at the same time set out new directions to promote heroic traditions and continue to make worthy contributions to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.
