Promoting the outstanding global value of Trang An Heritage

More effective exploitation of the potential and value of Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex contributes to affirming the position of Ninh Binh tourism in the domestic and international tourism market.

After a decade of being recognized as a World Heritage Site, Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex has become an important resource, pillar and driving force in building Ninh Binh culture and people, meeting the requirements of opening up and international integration, bringing the province to sustainable development, becoming a land rich in culture, strong in economy, green and clean in environment, meeting all the criteria for sustainable development.

Trang An is carrying a new mission, being the center and foundation for building a millennium heritage city in the near future.

Global value

On June 23, 2014, in the capital city of Doha (Qatar), the World Heritage Committee of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) officially listed Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex as a World Cultural and Natural Heritage based on three criteria: culture, aesthetic beauty and geology-geomorphology.

Up to now, after 10 years of being recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural and Natural Heritage in 2014, Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex has always received attention, coordination and effective assistance from ministries, branches, experts, managers and scientists at home and abroad in the work of managing, exploiting, preserving and promoting its outstanding global values.

Acknowledging and welcoming the vision and spirit of cooperation that paved the way for Trang An's achievements, Chief Representative of the UNESCO Office in Hanoi Jonathan Baker said that UNESCO remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting Trang An to overcome challenges.

The UNESCO Office is ready to provide the expertise to ensure that Trang An continues to be a “beacon” for responsible and sustainable tourism activities. The current vision of Trang An is fully consistent with UNESCO’s core mission of promoting peaceful cultural understanding and sustainable development through heritage conservation, so Mr. Jonathan Baker believes that Trang An will continue to serve as a model for sustainable and responsible development for future generations.

Dr. Ta Hoang Van, National Institute of Urban and Rural Planning, Ministry of Construction, assessed that Trang An Scenic Area has become a clear demonstration of an inevitable trend, which is connecting inter-provincial, inter-regional, and even inter-national heritage tourism to create unique values ​​and brands for the heritage area.

The World Heritage title of Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex is an honor for the Vietnamese people and Ninh Binh province. To affirm the commitments and responsibilities in the management, conservation, promotion of values ​​and transfer of heritage to future generations in accordance with the spirit of the World Heritage Convention, the Provincial Party Committee and the People's Committee of Ninh Binh province issued many documents directing all levels, sectors and local authorities in the heritage site to do a good job of management, conservation associated with promoting the value of heritage.

Chairman of Ninh Binh Provincial People's Committee Pham Quang Ngoc said that Trang An Heritage is like a precious gem that has become the heart, maintaining the beat, rekindling the past, filtering and preserving the precious values ​​of nature and culture. The values ​​of this heritage are an important driving force for Ninh Binh to develop in the period of innovation, development and integration into the UNESCO-listed heritage network. In particular, Trang An is playing a core and central role for Ninh Binh to develop the province's urban system in the direction of a heritage city.

In 2023, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha signed Decision No. 821/QD-TTg approving the Task of developing a Plan for the preservation, restoration and rehabilitation of Trang An-Tam Coc-Bich Dong National Special Scenic Landscape in Ninh Binh Province. The goal of the plan is to preserve the outstanding global values ​​of the heritage, concretize the development strategies and orientations of Ninh Binh Province, and implement Vietnam's commitment to UNESCO in the work of preserving and promoting the values ​​of the heritage.

Building heritage-tourism urban areas

In recent times, Ninh Binh province has identified tourism as a key economic sector, a driving force for other sectors and fields to develop together. Having identified the potential, strengths, and especially the value of Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex, Ninh Binh province has issued resolutions, projects, and policy mechanisms to develop tourism, in which Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex plays a key role in the province's tourism development orientation until 2045, becoming a major tourist center of the country and the region.

At the conference on millennium heritage urban areas and policies for Ninh Binh province, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong emphasized that the basis for Ninh Binh to build a heritage-tourism and landscape urban area is because the locality owns unique natural resources and heritages. Typical cultural, historical, architectural and humanistic heritages have many potentials to be promoted on the background of national cultural and historical heritages.

In order to develop Ninh Binh into a large center with high brand value in tourism, cultural industry, and heritage economy of the whole country and the Asia-Pacific region, along with implementing Resolution 16-NQ/TU dated August 23, 2023 of the Provincial Party Committee on the arrangement of administrative units at district and commune levels in Ninh Binh province, period 2023-2030, the establishment of the Heritage-Tourism Urban project is very important, creating a strategic framework, foundation, basis, with core values ​​for Ninh Binh to gradually develop steadily and sustainably. On that basis, Ninh Binh is focusing on building quality and unique tourism products.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Thanh Binh said that Ninh Binh needs to continue to strengthen the preservation, conservation and promotion of world heritage values ​​according to UNESCO standards; strengthen education, public awareness, raise awareness of the value of Trang An World Heritage for the community and tourists; strengthen cooperation with international organizations and other local partners to share heritage management experiences and learn from the success of other destinations...

Mr. Pham Thanh Binh affirmed that in the coming time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO will continue to accompany the locality so that the Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex continues to be a model model in preserving and promoting heritage values, contributing to realizing the aspiration of building Ninh Binh into a millennium heritage city, a creative city of UNESCO, making the locality a land rich in culture, strong in economy, green and clean in environment, meeting all the criteria for sustainable development.

The World Cultural and Natural Heritage of Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex has significantly contributed to bringing the image of Ninh Binh to domestic and international friends, creating a strong driving force for the province to develop tourism. The UNESCO Heritage title has made Trang An truly play a central role in promoting tourism development in Ninh Binh in recent years. More effective exploitation of the potential and value of the Heritage contributes to affirming the position of Ninh Binh tourism in the domestic and international tourism market.

At the 10th Anniversary Ceremony of Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex being recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural and Natural Heritage (2014-2024), Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang emphasized that after 10 years of being recognized, Trang An has become a symbol of Vietnam's responsible commitment to implementing the UNESCO convention on the protection of world cultural and natural heritage.

The Deputy Prime Minister requested Ninh Binh province and all levels and sectors to proactively and actively integrate into international cooperation in preserving, maintaining and promoting the value of global heritage, especially for UNESCO, and strongly promote the value of Ninh Binh's cultural image, people and nature to domestic and international friends and overseas Vietnamese./.
