Thanks to that, the Hue City History Museum and the relics in the area have promoted their historical value, becoming "red addresses" to educate the young generation about revolutionary traditions and patriotism.

Revolutionary tradition education from precious artifacts

In the historic days of April, in the atmosphere of the whole country preparing for the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025), many groups of students in Hue City and veterans visited the Hue City Museum of History at 268 Dien Bien Phu, Truong An Ward, Thuan Hoa District, Hue City. The museum yard is decorated with many flags and flowers, currently displaying nearly 30 valuable historical artifacts used by our army and people in the two resistance wars against France and the US. Seeing with their own eyes the tanks, armored vehicles, airplanes, rifles and many heavy artillery pieces on display here, students of Phu Thuong 1 Primary School (Phu Thuong Ward, Thuan Hoa District, Hue City) were interested and listened attentively to the explanation of the historical artifacts.

While pointing to the exhibits on display in the Museum yard, Ms. Cao Hoang Ngoc Anh, an officer of the Hue City History Museum, introduced each exhibit associated with the heroic battles of our army and people to the students: “This is a UH-1 aircraft, a type of aircraft used by the US in the war in Vietnam and the Tri Thien - Hue battlefield that was shot down and captured by our army. And this is an AD-6 aircraft that was captured by our army and people in 1975 at Bien Hoa airport base. In particular, the 122MM cannon displayed here was a weapon used by the liberation army and achieved many feats during the General Offensive and Uprising in the Spring of 1975, liberating Tri Thien - Hue…”.

In addition to the above valuable historical artifacts, the Hue City History Museum is currently managing and protecting more than 32,000 artifacts, including two national treasures: the Van Trach Hoa Altar and the Linh Thai Tower from the Champa period, along with many weapons used in the battles in the spring of 1975 to liberate the homeland. Among them, the H12 rocket launcher was equipped for Company 14, Regiment 4, Tri Thien Military Region, used from April 1974 to April 1975 and achieved many feats when fighting 25 battles, killing 60 enemies, and destroying 1 bunker. In particular, the liberation army used this H12 rocket launcher to attack Pho Lai base (Phong Son commune, Phong Dien district) on March 8, 1975, opening the General Offensive and Uprising in the Spring of 1975, liberating Hue.

Speaking to CAND Newspaper reporter, Mr. La Thien Phuong, Deputy Director of Hue City History Museum, said that in early 2025, Hue City History Museum completed the work of moving all these artifacts located in the Quoc Tu Giam relic site to a new location at 268 Dien Bien Phu to hand over this relic to the Hue Monuments Conservation Center for management. The move was carefully and meticulously prepared, ensuring absolute safety for all artifacts.

Currently, the Museum is open from Monday to Saturday to welcome visitors. Especially in March and early April 2025, especially during the recent Hung Kings' Commemoration Day holiday, the Museum welcomes a large number of visitors every day, most of whom are students from schools in Hue City and veterans who fought in the Thua Thien Hue battlefield in the past. "Currently, the unit is gradually implementing, consolidating and arranging artifacts in the direction of an open warehouse, displaying typical historical artifacts, national treasures, some weapons and equipment used in the 1968 Tet Offensive and Uprising and the liberation of Hue. Thereby, to serve tourists, students, and researchers to visit and learn about history," Mr. La Thien Phuong added.

Efforts to protect and preserve historical relics

Currently, in Hue City, there are many "red addresses" which are relic sites that have been recognized as national historical and cultural relics. Typical examples include the Phan Boi Chau Memorial Site recognized by the Ministry of Culture and Information (now the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism); the Nguyen Chi Dieu Memorial House; and the Chin Ham Relic Site located at the foot of Thien Thai Mountain. In particular, the Lao Thua Phu Relic Site (Thuan Hoa District) was the place where generations of patriotic students, youth, intellectuals, and steadfast revolutionary activists were imprisoned and brutally tortured during the two resistance wars against France and the United States, including General Nguyen Chi Thanh, General Vo Nguyen Giap, poet To Huu, and many other heroes and patriotic revolutionary soldiers. These relics have been preserved and protected by the Hue City Museum of History to serve visitors.

In recent times, on major national holidays, the Hue City History Museum and historical sites in the ancient capital of Hue have welcomed hundreds of delegations with more than 55,000 visitors from armed forces, police units, localities, schools, organizations and individuals from all over the country to offer flowers, incense, visit and learn about history.

“In addition to organizing special topics and historical artifacts exhibition spaces, the Museum is strengthening propaganda and education on revolutionary traditions to students and the younger generation through the forms of bringing exhibitions to the grassroots, displaying open spaces and open warehouses. At the same time, propaganda content will be carried out at schools in Hue City on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South, National Reunification and other major national holidays this year. In addition, it will carry out renovation work and establish projects to prevent degradation of relics directly managed by the Museum to contribute to preserving, conserving and promoting the value of historical relics,” the leader of the Hue City History Museum added.
