Tangible cultural heritage is defined as material products of historical, cultural and scientific value. These are objects, artifacts, works, landscapes, sites, historical relics, architecture, documents and other representatives of people and society from the past to the present. Each tangible cultural heritage is a wonderful story of the past and brings pride and deep awareness of our history and culture. Therefore, tangible cultural heritage plays an important role in preserving and transmitting historical and cultural heritage to the next generation. The Law on Cultural Heritage regulates the management, conservation and development of cultural heritage in the country with the aim of protecting, exploiting and promoting the value of cultural heritage.
In Ninh Binh, which is home to a rich system of tangible cultural heritages, including historical and cultural relics, scenic spots, relics, antiquities, a system of communal houses, temples, pagodas, cultural works... diverse and unique, created and preserved over thousands of years of history, demonstrating the depth and cultural depth of the land of thousands of years of civilization.
Over the past time, the preservation and promotion of the value of these heritages has not only been the pride of local people but also contributed to affirming the brand and unique identity of the historic Hoa Lu Ancient Capital.
Prof. Dr. Tu Thi Loan, Vice President of the Council of Science and Training, Vietnam National Institute of Culture and Arts, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said: The land of the ancient capital Hoa Lu-Ninh Binh is a place filled with historical vestiges of the Vietnamese people. This place was chosen by history to place important milestones of the country, with a capital-urban culture that continues to this day.
Throughout history, every period has recorded important marks, reflected in thousands of historical and cultural relics, famous people, legends, and myths associated with each mountain and river. The typical tangible cultural values of the ancient capital Hoa Lu have demonstrated the depth of history and culture of this land, and are scientific evidence for the development history of the ancient capital...
The preservation and promotion of the value of tangible cultural heritages in particular and cultural heritages in general not only shows the pride of the land and people of the ancient capital but also contributes to promoting comprehensive and sustainable development, bringing the unique identity and brand of Ninh Binh. Currently, domestic people and a part of foreign tourists are no longer unfamiliar with the unique historical and cultural relics when visiting Ninh Binh.
In addition to historical value, many relics also have high value in architecture and wood and stone carvings, bearing the characteristics of the ancient capital of Hoa Lu. Typical examples include: Temples of King Dinh and King Le; Temple of Saint Nguyen; Phat Diem Stone Church... In particular, the Hoa Lu ancient capital relic site is a destination with strong cultural and historical values. Along with the values of architectural art, many relics also preserve many relics, antiques, and national treasures with typical values in art, history, culture, and science.
As at the Hoa Lu Ancient Capital Relic Site, there are 5 outstanding artifacts that have been recognized as National Treasures (these are: Buddhist pillars of Nhat Tru Pagoda; Dragon bed in front of Bai Duong Temple of King Dinh Tien Hoang; Dragon bed in front of Nghi Mon Ngoai Temple of King Dinh Tien Hoang; Bo Phu Viet Temple of King Dinh Tien Hoang; Bo Phu Viet Temple of King Le Dai Hanh).
Along with that, at many historical and cultural relics in the area, specialized agencies have excavated nearly 40,000 documents and artifacts made from various materials such as porcelain, terracotta, metal, fabric, paper, leather, wood, etc., which are being displayed and preserved at Ninh Binh Museum; the Han Nom stele system has a continuous history spanning thousands of years, and still exists and is preserved in historical and cultural relics and scenic spots in many localities...
The system of relics, antiquities and national treasures has been and is being preserved quite well by Ninh Binh province. This is evidence affirming the long-standing historical and cultural source, and at the same time, is the basis and important resource for socio-economic development with local identity and brand of the province.
The Temple of Saint Nguyen Minh Khong is an ancient temple located in the territory of Gia Thang and Gia Tien communes (Gia Vien district). The temple worships Zen Master Nguyen Minh Khong, the National Master of the Ly Dynasty. Saint Nguyen Minh Khong's real name is Nguyen Chi Thanh, from Diem Xa village, in the ancient Trang An district. According to legend, he was the leading monk of the Ly Dynasty in Vietnamese history, and was also the first person to apply the method of treating diseases with traditional medicine and acupuncture.
Mr. Do Dinh Dinh, the Management Board of Duc Thanh Nguyen Temple, said: The temple was built to demonstrate the skillful and talented hands of ancient artisans. In addition to precious ancient artifacts, this place also preserves 50 royal decrees from the Le and Nguyen dynasties. The relic was recognized as a national architectural art in 1989, and has been cared for and preserved by the Gia Vien district government and local people.
In addition to regular renovation and repair, not allowing relics to deteriorate, every year, Gia Vien District People's Committee organizes festival activities, associated with introducing traditional occupations, introducing dishes and products of the homeland... Thereby creating unique characteristics of the locality, attracting and appealing to people and tourists to visit and worship.
According to the results of the 2022 general inventory of relics, the province currently has 1,821 relics distributed throughout 143 communes, wards and towns. Of these, 395 relics have been ranked, including 1 world cultural and natural heritage, Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex, 3 special national relics, Hoa Lu Ancient Capital; Trang An - Tam Coc - Bich Dong Scenic Landscape Area and Non Nuoc Mountain; 78 relics ranked at the national level and 314 relics ranked at the provincial level.
These are relics that mark important historical events of the locality and the nation, and at the same time reflect the material, cultural and spiritual life of the people through historical periods. In recent years, the province has regularly directed all levels, sectors and localities to pay attention to investing, embellishing, preserving and promoting the value of tangible cultural heritages in the province.
In addition to long-term, professional solutions, the Department of Culture, as a permanent agency in management, has coordinated with all levels, sectors and localities to harmoniously resolve the issue of conservation and development. In particular, it focuses on propaganda work for the community in places where relics are located to see the importance and value of relics, and supports socialized funding sources to protect, restore, exploit and promote the value of relics.
To make tangible cultural values not only a place for meaningful spiritual and cultural activities of local people but also contribute to attracting tourists. That is the strength for Ninh Binh to build a local brand associated with its own image and identity compared to other localities, gradually affirming the brand of the heritage land of the Red River Delta region.
