Promoting the value of Hoa Lo Prison relic to become an attractive destination for tourists

As a typical historical site of the Capital, in order to promote the values ​​of the relic, the Hoa Lo Prison Relic Management Board focuses on preserving the original architectural units, promoting research, collecting documents and artifacts, and integrating experiential activities into the regular exhibition system, creating authenticity, appeal and attracting public participation.

To improve the capacity and research and collection methods for the staff working in the field, the Monuments Management Board has organized many professional training sessions.

Through training sessions, the staff's level and collecting skills have been improved. The Management Board has received enthusiastic responses from organizations and individuals in collecting documents and artifacts.

Many witnesses and families donated documents and artifacts with the hope that the Management Board will preserve, protect and promote them effectively, contributingto educating the people about traditions.

In the 2022-2024 period, the Relic Management Board has researched the content and designed the art of 15 thematic exhibitions at the relic and 3 mobile thematic exhibitions.

Every year, the unit carries out 4 periodic preservation work sessions for the artifacts here; performs therapeutic preservation of 3 death row cells and roof systems, 55 artifacts (134 preservation units).

In addition, the unit also preserved and reinforced two underground sewer gate artifacts and the surrounding wall system; replaced the annotations on degraded display reliefs, and repaired a number of platforms, pedestals, and display cabinets in the galleries.

The Relic Management Board has published books such as “Tell the Story of Hoa Lo Prison” (Vietnamese), “Red-leafed Banyan Tree” (English) to serve the communication and promotion of the relic; and has created a list of 4 artifacts in the list of special fixed assets under its management.

The unit also researched and produced the 3D film "Execution of Death Row Prisoners" to be shown at the guillotine display area at the female prisoner camp.

In addition, the Management Board also developed a script and performance process for a number of exhibition rooms with the desire to realistically recreate a part of the lives of revolutionary soldiers during their time in detention at Hoa Lo Prison, contributing to creating diversity and attractiveness, providing more historical information about the relic for visitors.

Every year, the unit introduces to the public 3-5 thematic exhibitions to commemorate historical events and important holidays of the country with rich content and topics. Interactive activities are applied more in thematic exhibitions, supporting to increase the experience of visitors.

In particular, the Management Board organized a night tour to experience the Hoa Lo Prison relic site with the themes "Sacred Night 2 - Living like flowers", "Sacred Night 3 - Fire of youth."

The relic space at night combines sound, light and authentic stories about the miserable life in prison, dramatized by scenes, taking visitors back in time, feeling history as if it were happening right before their eyes, helping to awaken all senses, giving visitors deep emotions and impressions.

The Relic Management Board promotes communication work according to stages and events; posts articles on the Hoa Lo Prison relic fanpage; produces communication publications at the point of use of the Hoa Lo Prison relic (such as: Sacred Night poster, Animation clip promoting Sacred Night).

In addition, the unit has posted the content of thematic exhibitions held at the relic on Spotify, Apple Podcast and the Website; constantly improving the quality of reception and service; training staff to serve and welcome visitors professionally, enthusiastically, wholeheartedly and thoughtfully; ensuring a green, clean and beautiful relic environment; supplementing equipment and facilities in the exhibition space to best serve visitors.

With the goal of making Hoa Lo Prison a destination for domestic and foreign tourists when coming to Hanoi , the Management Board will make more efforts in creating experiential activities; interactive activities will be applied more in thematic exhibitions; promote communication; improve service quality... to attract public attention.

From there, it contributes to educating revolutionary traditions for all classes of people, especially for the young generation of the capital to better understand and love the history of the Vietnamese nation.

In the coming time, the Hoa Lo Prison Relic Management Board will continue to promote collection work to collect more documents and artifacts, creating a rich source of materials to serve the research, editing and innovation of displays at the relic./.
