On September 5, the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control (HCDC) issued recommendations on procedures for handling cases of measles or suspected measles at schools.
Children with or suspected of having measles must stay home from school and be quarantined for 7 days from the date of rash onset.
According to the recommended procedure, when detecting students with suspected measles symptoms, they need to wear masks and stop contact with others. School health staff or teachers will advise and guide parents to take their children to a medical facility for examination and treatment.
Children who are sick or suspected of being sick must stay home from school and be quarantined for 7 days from the onset of the rash. In addition, the school must immediately notify the ward, commune, or town health station for coordination in handling.
School health workers screen contacts of confirmed or suspected measles cases (students in the same classroom and those in direct contact) to determine vaccination history and provide timely vaccination guidance.
When a measles outbreak is detected at a school, it is necessary to monitor, investigate the epidemiology of the cases, analyze and urgently report to the local health center. At the same time, monitor the health status of all students, teachers, staff and employees daily to detect new cases until the outbreak ends. Report the outbreak daily to the commune-level epidemic prevention steering committee in accordance with regulations for timely handling.
Students, teachers, officials and employees who have or are suspected of having measles must go to a medical facility for examination, consultation and treatment; must stay home from school, work and be quarantined for 7 days from the date of rash onset.
If there is a case of illness, it is necessary to disinfect the entire surface of the classroom, workplace, living area, and communal kitchen by measures such as: wiping the floor, tables and chairs, doorknobs, toys, and common toilets with soap or regular disinfectant solutions or disinfectant solutions containing chlorine with a concentration of 0.5% active chlorine. Increase ventilation and natural light in the classroom and workplace by opening windows and doors.
