(Dan Tri) - Despite heavy rain, the water level of a mysterious "hanging" lake in a cave in Quang Binh suddenly dropped 2 meters. As the water receded, a stalactite seemed to have been dropped from the cave ceiling, floating on the lake's surface.
On May 24, Mr. Le Luu Dung, Director of Jungle Boss Company Limited, a tourism operator in Quang Binh, said that the unit's expedition team had just conducted a further survey of the mysterious lake in a branch of Thung Cave, part of the Hung Thoong Cave system (Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park). This lake has a surface area of about 100 square meters, surrounded by stalactites, located about 1km from the cave entrance.

What is special is that the lake is about 15m higher than the underground river in the cave, so it looks like it is "hanging" on the cave wall. Because of this, the survey team temporarily named the lake "Lô Lũng". According to Mr. Dung, during this return, the survey team unexpectedly discovered that the water level in the lake had dropped about 2m, even though in recent days, there has been heavy rain around Thung Cave area.

The expedition team has yet to find the water source in and out of the lake. According to initial surveys, the lake may be more than 10m deep. When the water receded, the expedition team discovered a stalactite block that seemed to have been dropped from the cave ceiling, floating on the lake surface. The Hung Thoong cave system is one of the most pristine places in Phong Nha - Ke Bang. Hung in Phong Nha language means valley. The Hung Thoong system or Thoong valley is very unique and special with many caves located deep in the strictly protected area, belonging to Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park, surrounded by a system of million-year-old limestone mountains and primeval forests. The only way to access these caves is to walk along the trails in the middle of the forest. In early 2023, the People's Committee of Quang Binh province allowed the pilot exploitation of the "Discover Hung Thoong" tour.
