New research just published in the scientific journal JAMA Network Open, has discovered the real effects of drinking lots of water on health.
Drinking 8 glasses of water a day for good health has long been recommended, but what are the real effects of these 2 liters of water?
A systematic review has uncovered surprising potential health benefits when you drink more water every day, according to research news site Study Finds.
Drinking just a little more water can help you lose weight, prevent kidney stones, and improve migraines...
Researchers from the University of California-San Francisco (USA) analyzed 18 randomized clinical trials and found that drinking just a little more water can help with weight loss, prevent kidney stones, and improve migraines, urinary tract infections, and control diabetes.
Although the evidence is still preliminary, the findings suggest that simply drinking a little more water each day may be a low-cost, low-risk health intervention.
This is the first study to evaluate the benefits of water intake on overall clinical outcomes, said lead author Benjamin Breyer, MD, PhD, chair of the Department of Urology at the University of California-San Francisco.
For recurrent urinary tract infections, research shows that increasing daily fluid intake can help reduce the number of infections and lengthen the time between infections.
In particular, the study also looked at the potential impact of water on blood sugar. One trial in diabetics found that drinking water before meals can significantly reduce fasting blood sugar levels. And this effect was most pronounced in patients who already had high blood sugar, according to Study Finds.
The researchers stress that while these results are exciting, more comprehensive studies are needed.
