According to the Telegraph , a research team at the University of California (Berkeley, USA) has discovered a completely new color called Olo, through the technology of projecting laser pulses directly into the human eye using the Oz Vision device.
Olo is described as "blue-green" but "extremely vibrant" and "overwhelming", going beyond the usual color experience.
Olo cannot be seen with the naked eye or through a screen, and only appears when tiny pulses of light stimulate the M cone cells in the retina - which cannot be activated by natural light.
The name "Olo" comes from the binary code 010, which denotes that only M cells are activated.
Some scientists are skeptical of this discovery, arguing that Olo is not a new color but simply a dark green form that can appear under special stimulation conditions. However, the research team emphasizes that the unique factor lies in the direct experience, which cannot be transmitted through current technology.
The Oz Vision device is not intended for commercial use, but serves as a research tool on how the brain processes images, and is expected to aid future research into visual mechanisms, color blindness, and eye diseases.
