On September 29, a representative of the Ho Chi Minh City Forest Protection Department said that the unit had received a monitor lizard weighing about 8kg voluntarily handed over by a resident in Thu Duc City.
Accordingly, on the afternoon of September 26, a foreign guest renting a luxury apartment in Thao Dien ward, Thu Duc city discovered a strange animal diving deep at the bottom of the swimming pool area in the apartment complex.
The panicked guest reported it to the apartment management unit.
The animal was then captured by security and removed from the pool.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu (residing in Thu Duc City) - customer reception manager of the apartment rental company - after checking and screening information, the unit knew that the animal above was a rare monitor lizard.
Mr. Hieu contacted and voluntarily handed over the monitor lizard to the Ho Chi Minh City Forestry Department with the hope that the animal would be well cared for and soon released back into the natural environment.
According to the staff of the Ho Chi Minh City Forest Protection Department, the animal voluntarily handed over by the people was a female monitor lizard weighing about 8kg, belonging to group IIB in the list of rare and endangered forest animals.
