On April 11, information from the Department of Geology and Minerals (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) said that during the implementation of the Project "Overall assessment of mineral potential in the Central Central region to serve socio-economic development (referred to as the Central Central Project), this agency discovered 12 gold ore areas, with estimated resource reserves of more than 10 tons of gold and more than 16.4 tons of silver.

According to Mr. Tran Binh Trong, Director of the Department of Geology and Minerals, the Project has been implemented since 2020 on areas with mineral potential and signs in the provinces of Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Kon Tum, Gia Lai, Dak Lak and mountainous areas of Da Nang city.

The project consists of 4 component projects: Overall assessment of metal mineral potential; Overall assessment of uranium ore potential; Overall assessment of industrial mineral potential; Overall assessment of stone block mineral potential for paving stones.

Mr. Duong Ngoc Tinh, representative of the Central Central Geological Federation, Project Manager, up to now, the Department of Geology and Minerals of Vietnam has investigated and synthesized the current status of 32 gold ore areas, in which the remaining resources of one mine have been assessed and transferred to the locality for management and planning for exploration and exploitation.

Notably, the units have made a preliminary assessment at a scale of 1:25,000 in 12 gold ore areas, with forecast resources including 10,093.9 kg of gold and 16,423.8 kg of silver. 11 large-scale prospective areas have been identified for further detailed assessment.

The project has also conducted a preliminary assessment at a scale of 1:25,000 in 6 copper ore areas, discovered and delineated two large-scale prospective areas for detailed assessment. Of these, two new copper mines have been discovered and are being assessed in detail. The forecasted resources up to the present time, level 333+334a, are 154,379.2 tons of copper metal.

In addition, the project has conducted detailed assessments in 7 areas with industrial minerals. The results have identified resources and delineated large-scale industrial mineral areas with sufficient basis for transferring exploration and exploitation.

Another important result of the Project is the investigation and assessment of the reserves of stone blocks for paving in 17 areas, focusing on stones of good quality, beautiful colors and patterns with industrial minerals.

In comparison with the specific assigned targets, the representative of the Vietnam Geology and Minerals Department said that the component projects have discovered and evaluated the resource potential, creating sufficient basis for transferring the auction of mineral exploration and exploitation rights for 26/45 mines, including 3/8-10 metal mineral mines, 06/10-15 industrial mineral mines and 17/20-25 stone cladding mines. At the same time, 2-3 areas of uranium ore prospecting have been discovered and transferred for exploration.

In the coming time, the Department of Geology and Minerals will continue to identify areas with mineral prospects and areas with the potential for hidden, deep mines to continue assessing minerals for the 2025-2030 period and after 2030.

At the meeting to hear the report on the progress of the Central Central Project held today, April 11, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Tran Quy Kien requested the Department of Geology and Minerals of Vietnam to direct the construction units to urgently review the workload based on newly discovered data on geology and minerals as well as areas proposed for large-scale mineral assessment, to propose appropriate adjustments; meet the set goals and tasks and achieve high investment efficiency.

In addition, Mr. Kien also requested the Department of Geology and Minerals to promptly adjust the overall project and component projects according to the new basic salary level to submit to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment for approval.
