After five editions, the "Overcoming Adversity" writing contest has truly spread its positive, humane, and meaningful message widely throughout society. The contest has also received letters of encouragement, praise, and congratulations from leaders of the Party, State, and Government .
Journalist Nguyen Toan Thang, Editor-in-Chief of Thanh Nien Magazine and head of the competition organizing committee, delivered the opening speech.
Mr. Nguyen Toan Thang, Editor-in-Chief of the Youth Magazine, said: “In addition to the purpose of promoting, introducing, honoring, and replicating the examples of young people and people with disabilities who are in difficult circumstances but always nurture a strong will and a desire to overcome harsh fate, this year, the Organizing Committee continues to launch the 6th "Overcoming Fate" writing contest, with a new feature in response to the 2023 theme of the Central Youth Union on "Digital transformation of Youth Union activities".
We hope to continue receiving the attention, support, and cooperation of individuals, agencies, and businesses, contributing to a better "ecosystem" for caring for vulnerable and disabled people, giving them more motivation to overcome adversity and take control of their lives. These are also gifts of special significance to the Organizing Committee of the 6th competition.
Through this competition, we call for social attention, companionship, and support from philanthropists, individuals, businesses, and organizations to contribute funds to award prizes and savings accounts to a number of individuals with particularly difficult circumstances who have strived to overcome challenges and become shining examples for young people to learn from and follow, as a practical way to celebrate the 11th National Congress of the Vietnam Student Union , term 2023 – 2028.”
The competition is open to individuals and groups from all walks of life living and working in Vietnam. Entries should focus on real-life examples, with clear and specific addresses, of people with disabilities, orphans, and especially young people who have overcome disabilities, difficult circumstances, and the harsh challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic; showcasing the unwavering will, dynamism, and creativity of youth in establishing themselves, building careers, and taking control of their lives.

Additionally, the author could focus on writing about exemplary young people with disabilities who demonstrate resilience, dynamism, creativity, and a keen interest in science and technology. These individuals are outstanding in participating in digital transformation, effectively applying scientific and technological achievements to their lives, and contributing to the successful implementation of the 2023 theme "Youth Pioneering Digital Transformation" launched by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Union...
Entries should be between 800 and under 3,000 words in Vietnamese. Entries should be in the form of a video clip, 3-5 minutes long. The deadline for submissions is August 30, 2023 (based on postmark or email date). The awards ceremony for the 6th "Overcoming Adversity" writing contest will be held in mid-October 2023, as part of the activities celebrating the 61st anniversary of Thanh Nien Magazine.
Within the framework of the program, the Youth Magazine signed cooperation agreements to contribute to the development of the Youth Scientific Research Journal with the following units: the Youth Union of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics; the People's Police Academy of Politics; the Youth Union of the Political Officer School; and the Institute of Journalism - Academy of Journalism and Communication.
On this occasion, the organizing committee also presented thousands of digital library cards to schools, contributing to raising awareness of reading culture, fostering a love of reading, and promoting self-learning and lifelong learning.
