On February 13, in Nha Trang city (Khanh Hoa), Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of France to Vietnam Olivier Brochet and his delegation visited and worked at the Institute of Oceanography (under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology).
Professor, Academician Chau Van Minh, President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, gave a brief introduction about the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and the Institute of Oceanography. Thereby, he affirmed the active support of France in the past year in the field of training and ensuring the quality of human resources at the Institute.
The Institute of Oceanography has had many international cooperations in oceanographic research. France has helped the Institute of Oceanography in the fields of research on the environment, plastic waste, harmful bacteria, etc. The research results have made an important contribution to marine education and the development of the Institute of Oceanography in particular.
Mr. Chau Van Minh hopes that in the coming time, scientific research cooperation between Vietnam and France will have new steps forward, especially in the fields of marine, oceanography, and space; in particular, supporting activities to train young human resources in Vietnam as well as postgraduates in France.
Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Tan Tuan acknowledged the contribution of the Institute of Oceanography to the local socio-economic development. At the same time, he believed that in the coming time, this agency will continue to contribute to sustainable development, especially in the province's development plan according to Resolution No. 09-NQ/TW, dated January 28, 2022 of the Politburo on "building and developing Khanh Hoa province to 2030, with a vision to 2045".
Mr. Olivier Brochet said that the visit and work at the Institute of Oceanography is very important, affirming the bilateral relationship between the two countries since the upgrade to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The cooperation in the field of scientific research between France and Vietnam has existed since very early. When the Institute of Oceanography was established in 1922, there were French scientists coming to support and conduct research. In addition, in Nha Trang city, there is also the Pasteur Institute - the workplace of the late doctor Yersin.
He also affirmed that the French Embassy and French units wish to strengthen cooperative relations with Vietnam. France aims to support the training of postgraduates in the field of scientific research for Vietnam. At the same time, France and Vietnam are aiming to jointly build a marine and climate monitoring station, expected to be located in Binh Dinh.
The Institute of Oceanography is one of the two scientific research institutes established by the French in Indochina, located in Khanh Hoa. Up to now, the Institute has existed and developed for more than a century, making many contributions to the socio-economic development of Khanh Hoa, contributing to the conservation of biodiversity, sustainable development of the marine economy and strengthening social security.
