Opta underestimates MU's chances of winning the championship.

After the most dramatic quarter-finals of the Europa League 2024/25, the race for the championship is down to 4 names: Athletic Bilbao, Boo/Glimt, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur. The four excellent teams will enter the semi-finals, with the first leg taking place on May 2, the second leg on May 9.

Who is favourite to lift the trophy in Bilbao? To find out, Opta ’s supercomputer ran 10,000 simulations of the rest of the tournament, using data from the Opta Power Rankings and teams’ performances since the start of the tournament.

The results show that Tottenham are the strongest candidates, with a final rate of up to 66.6% and a championship probability of 34.9%, the highest among the four teams. Athletic Bilbao, MU's opponent in the semi-finals, is second with a 53.8% chance of going on and a 28.5% chance of winning.

Despite an emotional quarter-final win over Lyon, United are only third with a 46.2% chance of reaching the final and a 24.2% chance of winning the title. Finally, Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt are the most underrated team, with just a 33.4% chance of reaching the semi-finals and a 12.4% chance of making history.

With their performances, all four teams deserve to be in the semi-finals. In football, anything can happen and that is what makes this year's season so exciting until the last minute.
