In particular, in 2024, Hanoi continued to be recognized and honored with numerous prestigious awards by reputable international tourism organizations. This demonstrates Hanoi's status as a leading tourist destination for both domestic and international visitors. Within the domestic market, Hanoi continues to assert its leading role in promoting tourism development in the Red River Delta, Northern Vietnam, and the entire country, with many large-scale, professional, and annual events such as the Hanoi Autumn Festival, the Hanoi Ao Dai Tourism Festival, and the Hanoi Tourism Gift Festival. Besides traditional products, Hanoi has also developed many tourism routes connecting the inner city to the suburbs; community tourism, and rural tourism.
For the international market, Hanoi continues to affirm its image and brand as one of the most attractive and unique tourist destinations in the region and the world. Hanoi has been honored to receive many prestigious awards, notably: “Asia’s Leading City Tourism Destination”; “World’s Best Golf City Destination 2024” awarded by the World Travel Awards; and is included in the “Top 100 Most Attractive Cities in the World 2024” selected by Euromonitor International... The system of accommodation facilities (especially high-end 4-5 star accommodations), shopping, dining, and entertainment facilities meeting the standards for serving tourists continues to ensure both quantity and quality. In 2024, the average hotel occupancy rate reached 62%, an increase of 2.9% compared to 2023.
According to Ms. Dang Huong Giang, Director of the Hanoi Department of Tourism, in 2024, the capital's tourism industry proactively and comprehensively implemented solutions to accelerate effective and sustainable tourism development, exceeding the set tourism development targets. The industry has also proactively and creatively developed a plan for nighttime tourism development, combining it with the exploitation of the unique and distinctive cultural elements of the capital city…
Innovating tourism products to be professional and modern.
Based on the achievements in 2024, the Hanoi Department of Tourism aims to attract over 30 million visitors in 2025, an increase of 11.1% compared to 2024, including over 7 million international tourists (of which 5 million are overnight visitors), an increase of 27.3% compared to 2024, and 23 million domestic tourists, an increase of 7% compared to 2024. Total revenue from tourism is expected to exceed 130 trillion VND, an increase of 26.1% compared to 2024.
To achieve the set goals, Ms. Dang Huong Giang stated that the Hanoi tourism industry will continue to support units managing heritage and cultural relic destinations in developing experiential cultural tourism tours, linked with night tourism and exploiting traditional cultural values; develop new tourism routes towards the North, upgrade services in pedestrian areas and streets, and promote strong tourism products such as cuisine, MICE (tourism combined with seminars, conferences, exhibitions, etc.), and health care; focus on developing river tourism, connecting destinations along the Red River and Duong River; strengthen linkages, promotion, and marketing in domestic and international markets from the beginning of the year, in a professional, modern, branded manner, with focused and targeted investment to build a high-quality image of Hanoi as a destination to ensure sustainable development and make an important contribution to the economic growth of the Capital.
According to Mr. Hoang The Hau, Director of Dai Viet International Tourism Company, Hanoi needs to invest heavily in accommodation infrastructure to develop the high-end segment and maintain stable prices during peak seasons; upgrade nighttime entertainment activities; diversify activities on pedestrian streets such as Ho Guom and Ho Tay, and promote high-quality entertainment services to increase tourist attraction and spending; and develop the cultural industry… to compete with regional markets such as Singapore and Thailand. Currently, customers are interested in green tourism trends with reasonable costs and environmentally friendly practices. Therefore, for the upcoming Lunar New Year (Year of the Snake), Hanoi should develop green tourism tours combined with festivals. Currently, travel companies have already developed tours combined with early year festivals such as the 236th Anniversary of the Victory at Ngoc Hoi - Dong Da, the Huong Pagoda Festival, the Giong Festival at Soc Temple, the Co Loa Festival, and the Me Linh Festival…
"With Hanoi's strong investment in festivals and measures to ensure security, order, and food safety, we hope that the number of tourists during the Lunar New Year of 2025 will increase by about 20% compared to the same period," Mr. Hau expected.
