According to the Hanoi Department of Tourism, in 2024, the development targets of the capital's tourism industry exceeded the set plan, with the number of tourists increasing by 40.8% over the same period in 2023. The total number of visitors to Hanoi reached 27.86 million, an increase of 12.7% over 2023, including 6.35 million international visitors (including 4.47 million international visitors staying overnight), an increase of 34.4% over 2023 and 21.51 million domestic visitors, an increase of 7.5% over 2023. Total revenue from tourists reached about 110,520 billion VND, an increase of 18.3% over 2023.

Based on the results achieved in 2024, the Hanoi Department of Tourism sets a target of attracting over 30 million visitors in 2025, an increase of 11.1% compared to 2024, over 7 million international tourists (including 5 million staying tourists), an increase of 27.3% compared to 2024 and 23 million domestic tourists, an increase of 7% compared to 2024. Total revenue from tourists reaches over 130 trillion VND, an increase of 26.1% compared to 2024.
To achieve the set goals, Ms. Dang Huong Giang said that the capital's tourism industry will continue to support units managing heritage destinations and cultural relics to build cultural and experiential tours, associated with night tourism and exploiting traditional cultural values; develop new tourism routes to the North, upgrade services in spaces and walking streets, and promote strong tourism products such as cuisine, MICE (tourism combined with seminars, conferences, exhibitions, etc.), health care; focus on developing river tourism, connecting destinations along the Red River, Duong River, etc.; strengthen connections, promote and promote domestic and international markets from the beginning of the year, in a professional, modern, branded direction, with focused and key investments to create the image of Hanoi as a high-quality destination to ensure sustainable development, making an important contribution to the economic growth of the capital.
According to Mr. Hoang The Hau - Director of Dai Viet International Tourism Company, Hanoi needs to invest heavily in accommodation infrastructure to develop the high-end segment and keep prices stable during peak season; upgrade nighttime entertainment activities; diversify activities on walking streets such as Hoan Kiem Lake, West Lake, promote high-quality entertainment services to increase the attractiveness and spending of tourists; develop the cultural industry... to compete with regional markets such as Singapore, Thailand. At the moment, customers are interested in the green tourism trend with reasonable costs and environmental friendliness. Therefore, during the upcoming Lunar New Year, Hanoi should build green tours combined with festivals.
