Men pee wrong way!

A leading urologist has revealed that men are peeing in a way that could be harmful. The doctor has claimed that men should sit down to pee because it is better for their health, according to the Daily Mail.

Dr Gerald Collins, a urological surgeon at Alexandra Hospital in Cheshire, northwest England, made the shocking claim following a report on men's urination habits published on May 27.

Data analytics firm YouGov surveyed more than 7,000 men from 13 countries around the world and found that the majority of men urinate standing up.

It turns out the best way for men to pee isn't what everyone else does!

The results showed that 40% of German men always sit down when urinating. Next are Australian men with 25%, Americans with 10%, British men with 9%... The lowest is Singapore with only 5% choosing to sit.

Dr Collins insists the Germans did the right thing.

He said that although standing up to pee is more convenient, it is much more inconvenient than sitting down. But that does not mean standing up to pee is good for your health.

Why is sitting better than standing to pee?

Dr Collins recommends this less-practiced method for men, as it is the “most efficient way” to pee. A 2014 study from Leiden University Medical Center in the Netherlands concluded that sitting down to pee may be better because it helps empty the bladder more quickly.

The urologist explained that sitting ensures the muscles in the pelvis and spine are completely relaxed, making it easier to completely empty the bladder, according to the Daily Mail.

Standing can prevent urine from completely draining from the bladder.

While standing activates those muscles and causes tension, it can prevent urine from completely emptying the bladder.

Dr Collins added that sitting urination is especially beneficial for older men because of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) - which is very common in the elderly.

Up to 80% of men aged 80 and over suffer from this condition, with the prostate gland and surrounding tissues enlarging, blocking the urethra, making urination more difficult.

And if the bladder is not emptied properly, men with PDTL can get bladder stones, urinary tract infections and kidney infections, so sitting down to urinate is recommended.

However, the YouGov survey found that older men are generally opposed to sitting down to pee, possibly due to the perception that standing up is more masculine.

Even on social networks, some people are angry, saying it is "propaganda to degrade masculinity".

However, others on Twitter urged men to give it a try.

In Germany, many public bathrooms have signs asking men to pee sitting down - usually to maintain hygiene, according to the Daily Mail.
