At the end of 2024, the Vinh Phuc Provincial Sports Training and Competition Center (where Nguyen Thi Huong trained) issued a notice regarding the temporary suspension of regular training for the sports teams. The document stated: "Based on Decision No. 65/QD-SVHTTDL dated January 29, 2024, of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism regarding the allocation of targets for coaches and athletes of sports teams under the Vinh Phuc Provincial Sports Training and Competition Center in 2024; Based on the requests of the sports teams and the actual situation of not receiving regular training nutrition for coaches and athletes, the Vinh Phuc Provincial Sports Training and Competition Center announces:
Regular training for sports teams will be suspended from December 24, 2024, until regular funding for training is provided in 2024. During this suspension period, coaches and athletes are required to comply with legal regulations regarding accurate communication about the lack of regular nutritional support and to ensure safe traffic participation and adherence to traffic laws.
Coaches hand over athletes to their families for management during periods of suspension from regular training. During this suspension, families are responsible for all activities of the athletes. The Training and Athlete Management Department monitors the situation and reports to the Board of Directors on the athletes' travel arrangements upon returning home.
Nguyen Thi Huong previously won 5 gold medals at the 31st SEA Games.

As Thanh Nien newspaper previously reported, Vietnamese sports talent Nguyen Thi Huong has submitted a request to retire from rowing training in Vinh Phuc province starting January 1, 2025. In her resignation letter, the 2001-born athlete expressed: "I started training and became a rowing athlete in Vinh Phuc province in August 2016. For the past nine years, I have continuously strived, overcome all difficulties and hardships, diligently trained and contributed to Vinh Phuc province's sports to win many prestigious medals at international and domestic competitions, bringing glory to the Vietnamese Fatherland as well as Vinh Phuc province. In particular, I am honored to have won a ticket to officially participate in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games."
However, in the three years from 2022 to 2024, I have not received the prize money for medals in domestic competitions or the nutritional support allowance for 2024. Now that I am older and due to family circumstances, I am writing this letter to request to retire from training as a rowing athlete in Vinh Phuc province. I respectfully request that the Board of Directors of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vinh Phuc province and the Board of Directors of the Vinh Phuc Provincial Sports Training and Competition Center facilitate my retirement from training starting January 1, 2025, in accordance with my family's and my personal wishes." Huong will continue training in the Vietnamese rowing team.
Nguyen Thi Huong is a golden girl of Vietnamese sports and the first Vietnamese athlete to qualify for the Olympic Games in canoeing. She is also one of the two athletes who have won the most gold medals at the 31st SEA Games. 2024 was a historic milestone when Nguyen Thi Huong won a silver medal at the Asian Championships.
At the VTV Awards - Impressive VTV 2024 ceremony held in Hanoi on January 1, 2025, Nguyen Thi Huong was honored in the category of Most Impressive Young Face in the field of Sports. She also won the Young Athlete of the Year award at the Victory Cup 2024.
