According to a VNA correspondent in Russia, on June 17, Russian President Vladimir Putin held talks on resolving the Ukraine conflict with a high-ranking African diplomatic delegation, including representatives of seven countries on the continent, in St. Petersburg.
At the meeting, the African diplomatic delegation called on Russia and Ukraine to sit at the negotiating table to end the conflict soon and Africa wants to become a broker in the peace process.

The African delegation proposed a peace plan focusing on 10 main points including: listening to the views of the countries; starting diplomatic negotiations as soon as possible; starting to de-escalate the conflict from both sides; ensuring national and ethnic sovereignty in accordance with the UN Charter; ensuring security for all countries; ensuring the transportation of grain and fertilizer from both countries; providing humanitarian assistance to those who have become victims of the war; resolving the issue of exchanging prisoners of war and returning children; post-war reconstruction and support for war victims; closer cooperation with African countries.
For his part, Russian President Vladimir Putin affirmed that Moscow is ready for constructive dialogue with all those who want peace on the principles of justice, taking into account the legitimate interests of the parties, and will consider any proposals from African countries on resolving the problem in Ukraine.
The Russian President also appreciated the African Union leadership's balanced approach to the situation in Ukraine.
Commenting on the African delegation's peace plan after the talks, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov affirmed that Moscow supports a principled approach that there can be no double standards in the world; the principles of the UN Charter are respected and implemented; there are no unilateral sanctions; there are no efforts to ensure the security of one country at the expense of the security of other countries; security is indivisible on a global scale.
Meanwhile, Russian President's press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that further contacts between the Russian president and representatives of African countries will take place, although not all provisions of the peace initiative on Ukraine are similar to Moscow's position.
A high-level African diplomatic delegation arrived in Kiev on June 16, hoping to bring to the negotiating table the voice of a continent that has suffered heavily from the Ukraine conflict, including rising grain prices.
The delegation then traveled from Ukraine to Russia on June 17, including South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Senegalese President Macky Sall, Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema and Comoros President Azali Assoumani, who is also the head of the African Union.
In addition, Uganda, Egypt and Congo-Brazzaville sent high-ranking officials to join the tour.
