Petrovietnam determined to complete Long Phu 1 Thermal Power Plant Project before 2027

On January 6, 2025, at the Long Phu 1 Thermal Power Project construction site ( Soc Trang province), Petrovietnam - National Energy Industry Group, Long Phu 1 Oil and Gas Power Project Management Board (LP1PP) and member units held a launching ceremony to accelerate the completion of the Long Phu 1 Thermal Power Plant Project with the determination to bring the project to the finish line sooner than prescribed in the Power Plan VIII approved and directed by the Prime Minister.

The event was attended by members of the Party Central Committee, leaders of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairmen and Vice Chairmen of Soc Trang, Hau Giang, Can Tho, Bac Lieu and Ca Mau provinces; representatives of the Department of Energy, the State Capital Management Committee at Enterprises; representatives of leaders of central ministries, branches, departments and branches of the provinces.

On the Petrovietnam side, there were comrade Le Manh Hung - Party Secretary, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Group; comrade Tran Quang Dung - Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Group; along with comrades of the Group's leaders, the Vietnam Oil and Gas Trade Union, leaders of the Group's member units and leaders, officers and employees of the Long Phu 1 Oil and Gas Power Project Management Board (PLP) and partners.

Following the spectacular successes in implementing and completing key national energy projects that have experienced many difficulties and existed for a long time in the past, such as Song Hau 1 and Thai Binh 2 thermal power plants, accelerating the investment process to complete the Lot B - O Mon Gas and Power chain project, handling the existing problems of Dung Quat Shipyard to develop the service industry, along with impressive production and business results with many important records set in 2024, implementing the direction of the General Secretary and Prime Minister, Petrovietnam has focused its resources and made the highest efforts, carefully preparing to accelerate the completion of the Long Phu 1 thermal power plant project.

And right after the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the State Management Committee at the enterprise approved the related procedures, from the first days of the new year 2025, Petrovietnam organized a campaign to accelerate the completion of the Long Phu 1 Thermal Power Plant project with the goal of completing it as soon as possible, before 2027.

At the ceremony, to prepare resources to accelerate the implementation of the Long Phu 1 Thermal Power Plant Project in the coming period, Petrovietnam announced the decision to establish a Steering Committee to implement the Long Phu 1 Thermal Power Plant Investment and Construction Project (Steering Committee); at the same time, announced and awarded the decision of Party Secretary, Head of the Long Phu 1 Thermal Power Plant Project Management Board for the 2020-2025 term to comrade Ha Dinh Nien.

Reporting on the implementation plan and tasks in the coming time, comrade Tran Toan Thang - Deputy Head of Long Phu 1 Project Management Board said that in the past time, with the attention, leadership and close direction of state management agencies, the efforts of contractors and workers on the construction site, Petrovietnam/Project Management Board has prepared very carefully, focused the highest resources with determination and unity throughout the entire political system - mass organizations, urgently removed difficulties, handled obstacles and carried out procedures to adjust the project, built a master plan to deploy investment to complete the project.

Previously, Petrovietnam/Project Management Board proactively implemented measures to inspect, maintain and repair equipment at the construction site, paying special attention to and performing periodic inspections according to very strict procedures, thereby ensuring the maintenance of optimal quality of materials and equipment according to the requirements of the manufacturer and fabricator.

In 2025, in order for the Long Phu 1 Thermal Power Plant Project to be implemented on schedule and achieve the set goals, Petrovietnam has determined to focus on implementing key tasks such as completing the approval of the adjusted investment project of the Long Phu 1 Thermal Power Plant Project; approving the overall contractor selection plan of the Project; completing the selection of contractors for the new EPC package/main equipment packages;... early completion of the Project and putting it into operation before 2027.

To realize the goal, the Petrovietnam Party Committee issued Resolution 952 , dated January 3, 2025 on "Leading the acceleration of the completion of the Long Phu 1 Thermal Power Plant Construction Investment Project" to mobilize the entire political system, focusing all resources to implement and achieve the goals of the Project.

Speaking at the direction and assignment, Comrade Le Manh Hung - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Petrovietnam said that Petrovietnam has favorable conditions and foundations to accelerate the implementation and completion of the project. Those are the difficulties of the Project with international elements that have been and are being supported by the Government to be resolved; the demand for energy to meet the target of double-digit economic growth of the country as directed by the Prime Minister is very large; in the spirit of 2024, Petrovietnam completed and achieved a new record of revenue of over 1 million billion VND and successfully put large projects into operation to create products and energy, contributing to helping the Group complete the 5-year plan (2021 - 2025) early; Petrovietnam has just made an epochal transition to become the National Energy Industry Group; In the context of implementing the 2025 plan, the Prime Minister directed to accelerate key project constructions... On that basis, Petrovietnam set a goal of implementing all solutions to complete the project and put it into operation before 2027.

Comrade Le Manh Hung - Party Secretary, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Petrovietnam delivered a speech assigning the task of speeding up the construction and completion of the Project.

Comrade Le Manh Hung suggested that the Party Committee of the Group and the Party Committees of the affiliated units present at the construction site thoroughly grasp Resolution 952 on the spirit, tasks and goals, thereby creating the combined strength of the Group to complete the project on schedule, ensuring quality and within the approved total investment. He assigned the Group's General Director to direct the Steering Committee to perfect the organization of the Project Management Board; thoroughly decentralize to the Project Management Board to ensure speeding up the progress; assign the Vietnam Oil and Gas Union to build progress milestones, launch emulation to complete each step of the project progress; assign the Group's capital representatives in the affiliated units to develop plans to participate in the implementation of work according to the assignment of the Steering Committee and the Project Management Board to complete the project on schedule; at the same time, immediately deploy the project to green power plants in general and Long Phu 1 in particular to ensure the goal of sustainable development.

Petrovietnam hopes to continue receiving the attention and close direction of the Party and State leaders; the sharing, support and assistance of provinces and cities, especially Soc Trang province, so that the Long Phu 1 project can overcome difficulties and complete as planned.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of Petrovietnam expressed his belief that, with the strong leadership and direction of the Party and the Government, the support of the central and local ministries and branches; the cooperation and sharing of the relevant Parties, together with the spirit and cultural tradition of not being afraid of difficulties and hardships of the Oil and Gas workers, the project will successively achieve important milestones, steadily moving towards the finish line before 2027, contributing to ensuring the goal of national energy security and the goal of double-digit economic growth.

At the event, with the cultural tradition of "oil and gas affection" and the spirit of "mutual love", leaving no one behind, Petrovietnam donated Tet for the poor to Can Tho city, Soc Trang, Hau Giang, Ca Mau, Bac Lieu provinces with a total amount of 5 billion VND.

Vietnam Oil and Gas Trade Union presented a support plaque of 550 million VND to build a mini soccer field and organize the Oil and Gas Spring of Love 2025 to the Project Management Board Trade Union.
