According to Decision No. 1011/QD-TTg recently issued by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Petrovietnam is one of the units with many key energy-using facilities in the country. With a system of large factories stretching from the South to the North, including facilities such as Dung Quat Oil Refinery (Quang Ngai), power and fertilizer plants in Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Dong Nai, Ca Mau, Hau Giang, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Thai Binh and executive headquarters in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, Petrovietnam is holding many facilities with high energy consumption. However, these facilities are all energy production and operation facilities, contributing significantly to ensuring national energy security.

Dung Quat Oil Refinery – an important project related to national energy security

Dung Quat Oil Refinery in Quang Ngai Province, with a designed capacity of up to 6.5 million tons of crude oil per year, is a major energy user in Petrovietnam's system. Considered the "heart" of Vietnam's oil refining industry, the plant not only supplies petroleum fuel but also ensures a stable supply for the transportation, industrial and civil sectors nationwide. Operating this plant efficiently and saving energy is the top priority to optimize costs and protect the environment.

In Ba Ria – Vung Tau, Phu My Fertilizer Plant is one of the largest energy users, with the task of producing millions of tons of nitrogenous fertilizer each year. Phu My Fertilizer plays an important role in ensuring a stable supply of fertilizer for Vietnam’s agriculture, while also contributing to the economic development of the region.

Hau Giang is also where Petrovietnam implements important energy projects, including the Song Hau 1 Thermal Power Plant. This plant has a designed capacity of up to 1,200 MW, using advanced technology to ensure efficiency in fuel consumption and reduce environmental emissions. This project not only meets the electricity demand of the Mekong Delta but also contributes to supplementing the supply for the national power system, enhancing energy security and supporting local economic development.

Song Hau 1 Thermal Power Plant contributes to supplementing the national power supply, enhancing energy security and supporting regional economic development.

Located in the Ca Mau Power – Gas – Fertilizer Complex, Ca Mau Power Plant 1 and 2 are large gas power plants belonging to Petrovietnam, using natural gas to produce electricity, ensuring electricity supply for Ca Mau province and neighboring areas. Along with that, Ca Mau Fertilizer Plant is an important fertilizer production facility, ensuring supply for agriculture nationwide.

There are many other Petrovietnam Oil and Gas and Energy facilities spread across the country, playing an important role in the national energy grid.

Goal of energy saving and environmental protection

In the context of rapidly increasing energy demand, along with the pressures of climate change and environmental protection goals, Petrovietnam is facing a dual mission: maintaining stable production activities while using energy economically and efficiently. This is not only a strategic goal but also the Group's social responsibility in fulfilling its commitments to sustainable development.

Petrovietnam has been implementing a series of solutions to optimize energy use at its factories. Specifically, the Group is promoting the application of advanced technologies and automation in the production process, minimizing energy waste in operations and enhancing the performance of systems.

Petrovietnam’s oil and gas, power and fertilizer plants and facilities are all equipped with energy monitoring systems, allowing for close monitoring of consumption and rapid detection of factors that reduce energy efficiency. This optimization not only helps reduce production costs but also reduces pressure on the national grid, contributing to environmental protection by minimizing carbon emissions.

The Group is also aiming to invest in renewable energy sources and new energy sources in parallel with improving energy efficiency at existing facilities to supplement energy supply for the system, maintaining its role and position in the economy as well as national energy security.

Ensuring safe and continuous operation

Besides the goal of protecting the environment, Petrovietnam always gives top priority to ensuring safe and continuous operation of factories.

To achieve this, the Group has invested heavily in the periodic maintenance and repair of equipment and production systems at its factories. At the same time, training a team of highly qualified technicians and operators is also a top priority to ensure that all production processes strictly comply with high standards of safety, quality and efficiency in Vietnam and internationally.

Accordingly, periodic maintenance services are always monitored and implemented to extend equipment life, minimize costs and improve production efficiency. Investment in advanced technology and highly skilled human resources also helps the Group optimize energy consumption at facilities.
