(CLO) US President-elect Donald Trump held a victory rally on Sunday in Washington DC, one day before he was sworn in.

Trump's "Make America Great Again" victory rally will take place at 3 p.m. ET Sunday at Capital One Arena.

Mr Trump told thousands of cheering supporters that he would impose strict restrictions on immigration on his first day in office, pledging to quickly deliver on a central promise of his presidential campaign.

"When the sun sets tomorrow, the invasion of our country will stop," he said to cheers at the "Make America Great Again Victory Rally."

Mr Trump repeated his campaign pledge to launch the largest deportation effort in US history, removing millions of immigrants. However, an operation of such scale would likely take years and be very expensive.

“This is the greatest political movement in American history, and 75 days ago, we achieved the greatest political victory our country has ever seen,” he said. “Starting tomorrow, I will act with historic speed and resolve every crisis facing our country.”

President-elect Trump said he would also “completely eliminate extremist ideology from the military” and order the military to build a missile defense shield across the United States, although he has yet to provide details on how that would be done.

The indoor hockey and basketball arena will also host some inaugural festivities on Monday after cold weather forecasts forced officials to move planned outdoor events inside.

The world's richest man, Elon Musk, who has become a close associate of Mr Trump since spending more than $250 million to boost his campaign, appeared with President-elect Trump and spoke on stage at the rally.

Earlier on Sunday, Mr Trump had breakfast with Republican senators at Blair House, a guest house across from the White House. John Cornyn, Susan Collins, Ted Cruz, Rick Scott and Tim Scott were among the attendees seen leaving the event.

Early Sunday morning, Mr. Trump will also participate in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery. In the evening, he will address wealthy supporters at a dinner in Washington.

Mr Trump's inauguration is scheduled for 12:00 pm Eastern time on Monday (00:00 Tuesday Vietnam time). He will be sworn in as president inside the Capitol building, but cold weather has forced organizers to move the ceremony indoors.

Some 25,000 law enforcement officers will be on hand to ensure security at the high-risk event.
