In an interview with the extremely popular podcast host Joe Rogan on October 25, former US President Donald Trump was asked about his cabinet and whether he felt he made the wrong choices.
Mr. Trump claimed success during his term but later admitted making mistakes in the process of choosing officials to serve in his administration.
“The biggest mistake I made was picking some people I shouldn’t have picked. Neoconservatives, bad people, or disloyal people,” he said.
The former president then specifically mentioned John Kelly, his longest-serving former White House chief of staff, and John Bolton, his former national security adviser. Both are among the many former officials who have been vocal critics of Mr Trump.
The interview also discussed the role of police officers in the US, the US withdrawal from Afghanistan, the impact of the July assassination attempt on the former president's life and his distrust of the polls.
Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign had previously been in talks with host Rogan's team about a podcast interview, but it ultimately fell through.
Harris campaign spokesman Ian Sams said the interview would not take place right now because the schedule at this stage does not allow it.
On the same day as Mr. Trump’s interview, also in Texas, Ms. Harris had the biggest campaign outing of her campaign. She has recently been doing interviews on various podcasts and radio shows.
Joe Rogan’s podcast has about 14.5 million listeners per episode, and the audience skews male, a demographic that Vice President Harris is having a hard time attracting as Election Day approaches.
