US President Donald Trump said on January 25 that he is discussing with many parties about acquiring the TikTok application and will make a decision within 30 days.
Responding to the press on January 25, Mr. Trump said that he had spoken to many parties and found that there was great interest in TikTok. Previously, Reuters quoted a source as saying that the Trump administration planned to push the US software company Oracle to coordinate with outside investors to acquire TikTok.
According to the deal being negotiated by the White House, TikTok's parent company ByteDance (China) will retain a stake in the company, but data collection and software updates will be overseen by Oracle, the company that currently powers TikTok's website, the source said.
US President Donald Trump wants TikTok to operate in the US instead of being banned
The deal under negotiation would involve ByteDance’s existing U.S. investors, the sources said. Several other parties are also vying to buy TikTok, including a group led by billionaire Frank McCourt and another led by Jimmy Donaldson, a YouTube star known for his channel “MrBeast,” which has more than 350 million subscribers.
“Not with Oracle. A lot of people are talking to me about buying TikTok, and I’ll make that decision in the next 30 days. Congress gave me 90 days. If we can save TikTok, I think that would be a good thing,” Trump said.
Oracle and TikTok representatives have not commented on the above information.
After taking office, Mr. Trump signed an executive order to postpone the ban on TikTok for 75 days, in order to provide solutions for ByteDance to sell TikTok to an American company, after the US Congress last year passed a law banning TikTok due to concerns about posing national security risks and collecting US user data.
Mr. Trump is said to want American investors and businesses to own 50% of TikTok shares in the form of a joint venture, but convincing Congress is considered a major obstacle. In 2024, TikTok announced that it would rather close down in the US than sell the company, which has more than 170 million users in the US.
