Mr. Trump campaigned in Iowa on October 29.
The Hill newspaper on October 30 quoted former US President Donald Trump as saying that his legal costs were about 100 million USD, in the context that he faced 4 criminal lawsuits and one civil lawsuit.
Speaking to a crowd of supporters in Sioux City, Iowa, he said he had lost billions of dollars entering politics and complained about high legal costs.
The former president said he turned down many opportunities to make money during his tenure to avoid conflicts of interest and that he had "too much respect for the office."
"Countries come and say they want to create jobs, and I'm involved. I talk to my kids and apologize to them because we can't do it. I'm the president," Trump said.
To make matters worse, he added, legal fees were involved. “I spent $100 million in legal fees. At least I had good lawyers, because you can spend $100 million and still have bad lawyers,” he said.
Mr Trump faces two criminal charges in Washington DC and Georgia for attempting to overturn the election results. He also faces a criminal charge for handling classified documents after leaving the White House and another criminal charge related to alleged payments to a porn star.
In addition, he also faces a civil case in New York state that is currently being tried on charges that he, his two sons and the Trump Organization falsely declared the value of assets to benefit from insurance and loans.
During the campaign, Mr. Trump said the federal indictments against him would help him strike back at President Joe Biden if he wins the 2024 election.
“The only reason they prosecuted me is because we were leading him in the polls,” he alleged.
In addition, he pledged that if elected, he would direct the Justice Department to investigate "extreme" attorneys general and attorneys general, while emphasizing his plan to "completely reform" the Justice Department.
