However, on Friday morning, Mr. Trump shared a video on the Truth Social platform claiming that the drop was intentional. The video opens with the caption: "Trump is crashing the stock market... but he's doing it on purpose."

The video shared by Mr Trump was originally from TikTok user @wnnsa11 and reposted on X by the account “AmericanPapaBear”. The video claims that Mr Trump is playing a “secret move” that can “make you rich”.
The stock market crash would push money into Treasury bonds, forcing the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates in May, helping to refinance trillions of dollars of debt at lower costs, according to the video.
Additionally, the video argues that tariffs would force companies to build factories in the US to avoid the tax and encourage farmers to sell their products domestically, helping to lower food prices.
Asked about the market plunge on Thursday, President Trump told reporters: "I think things are going very well. We have six or seven trillion dollars pouring into the country and we've never seen anything like it."
Meanwhile, President Trump is also said to have personally decided on the formula used to impose new tariffs on 185 countries this week, according to a report by The Washington Post.
Economists have largely criticized the tariffs, arguing that they are economically harmful and predicting that the median US household income will fall by $3,789 and GDP will fall by 0.87% by 2025.
