Republican candidate and former US President Donald Trump on October 13 suggested mobilizing the US military to prevent extremists from causing trouble during the election.
CNN quoted Republican candidate Trump on the Sunday Morning Futures program broadcast on October 13 (US time) saying that he himself was not worried about chaos caused by his supporters or foreign forces during the election, but rather "extremist elements within the US".

“I think the bigger problem is the extremists inside the United States. We have some bad, deviant, extremists. I think it would be handled easily by the National Guard if necessary, or by the military if necessary. Because they can’t let that happen,” Trump told the Sunday Morning Futures host. When asked if he saw any chaos on Election Day, the Republican candidate said it wouldn’t come from the people who voted for him. According to Politico, the idea of deploying the military on Election Day that Trump mentioned above would be an unprecedented intervention in the voting process, despite the fact that the Insurrection Act of 1807 gives the US president the authority to deploy the military or the National Guard to deal with riots or other unrest.
