US Election 2024

* Mr. Donald Trump will become the 47th President of the United States, according to preliminary results after the 2024 US presidential election (November 5). Updated from the statistics page 270 to Win to 5:30 p.m. on November 6, Mr. Trump won 286 electoral votes, surpassing the 270 mark needed to win.

Ms. Harris currently has 226 votes. In the two states that have not finished counting votes, Arizona and Michigan, Mr. Trump is leading.

Early afternoon, November 6, Vietnam time, Republican candidate Donald Trump gave his first speech after the victory, saying that he and his supporters had made history, and pledged to "heal" the country. (CNN)

* International leaders congratulated Mr. Trump on his victory. From Europe, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, Austrian Prime Minister Karl Nehammer, Polish President Andrzej Duda, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban sent messages of cooperation.

From Asia, Japan pledged to maintain strong ties with the new US administration, while South Korea affirmed that it would continue to build a good security partnership with Washington.

China affirms that it will continue to approach and handle China-US relations based on the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation.

From the Middle East, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu congratulated Mr. Trump on his "historic return to the White House," saying it marked a new beginning for the United States and a strong commitment to the "great alliance" between Israel and the United States. (AFP, Kyodo)

Europe

* Ukraine congratulates Trump on his "impressive" election victory. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he appreciated Trump's commitment to a "peace through strength" approach to global affairs, saying this was exactly the "principle that can really bring a just peace in Ukraine faster". * The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) opened a representative office in Ukraine. The head of this office, Patrick Turner, visited Kiev and met with Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov on November 5.

Mr. Turner will be the coordinator of NATO's cooperation with the Kiev government, as well as coordinating NATO's efforts and providing the alliance with assessments and recommendations on the situation in Ukraine. (Interfax)

* The leaders of France and Germany spoke by phone after Mr. Trump declared victory. French President Emmanuel Macron wrote on social network X after the phone call that the two countries "will work in this new context for a more united, stronger and more sovereign Europe." (DW)

* Russia has no plans to congratulate Mr Trump, according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, adding: "Let's not forget that we are talking about a hostile state that is directly and indirectly involved in a conflict against our state."

However, Russia is closely monitoring information about the US election and is unlikely to make an official assessment until it sees "concrete words and actions." (TASS)

* Italy and France urged an immediate ceasefire in the Middle East in a phone call between their foreign ministers, stressing that the priority now was to avoid further escalation and support a deal between Israel and Hamas. (AFP)

* Russia's upper house of parliament ratified a comprehensive strategic partnership treaty with North Korea on November 6. The treaty includes a mutual defense clause that stipulates that if either side comes under armed attack, the other side will immediately provide military and other assistance. (Reuters)

* The European Union (EU) aims to become the world's leading artificial intelligence (AI) center. On November 5, the European Council adopted conclusions based on a report from the European Court of Auditors (ECA), which emphasized the importance of strengthening the EU's ambitious AI goals.

Achieving this goal requires increased investment in AI research and development, improved access to digital infrastructure and close cooperation with member states and international partners. (AFP)

Middle East-Africa

* Iran is ready to confront Israel after the US election , and does not rule out the possibility that the two countries will launch a preemptive attack on Tehran, according to Deputy Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Ali Fadavi.

Iran also denied the impact of the US presidential election on the country and Iran-US relations. Iranian government spokesman Fatemeh Mohajerani said: "In any case, the general policy of the two countries is stable in nature and will not change significantly in practice." (Reuters)

* Iran successfully launched two domestic Kowsar satellites into orbit using a Russian Soyuz-2.1b rocket from the Vostochny Cosmodrome launch site in the Russian Far East in the early morning of November 5.

Kowsar is a 30-kilogram remote sensing satellite, equipped to capture high-resolution images for agricultural planning, natural resource management, environmental monitoring and crisis management. (Tasnim)

* Israel carried out airstrikes in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip, killing Hussain Abd Al-Haleem Harb, a Hezbollah commander in the Khiam area. In the past 24 hours, the Israeli Air Force has carried out about 70 airstrikes in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip. (AP)

* Hezbollah fired a rocket at a military base near Israel's Ben Gurion International Airport on November 6. Israeli media reported that the rocket landed near the airport. Ben Gurion airport officials said the airport continued to operate as normal. (Reuters)
