President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Scott Turner, a former football player and Texas congressman from 2013 to 2017, to be secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Turner is president of the Center for Educational Opportunity at the America First Policy Institute, a Trump-affiliated think tank. During Trump’s first term, Turner served as executive director of the White House Opportunity and Recovery Council, which aims to help “struggling communities across America.” He is also the CEO and founder of the Community Opportunity & Engagement Council (CEOC), which focuses on helping communities across the U.S. through sports, mentorship, and economic opportunity. “Scott will work with me to make America great again for all Americans. Congratulations to Scott, his wonderful wife, Robin, and their son, Solomon!” Trump said. Trump also picked former Florida congressman Dave Weldon to head the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) during his upcoming term. "The health of Americans is of paramount importance right now, and CDC will play a major role in helping ensure Americans have the tools and resources they need to understand the underlying causes of disease and the solutions to cure it," Trump said. Trump also picked Marty Makary, a surgeon at Johns Hopkins, to lead the federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Makary is a cancer surgeon at Johns Hopkins University. He will lead Trump's health department under Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who was appointed to head the Department of Health and Human Services earlier this week.
