Accordingly, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son signed a decision to temporarily appoint Mr. Nguyen Trung Kien to hold the position of Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese.

Mr. Nguyen Trung Kien is Vietnamese Ambassador to Austria (term 2021-2024).

The Ministry's leaders also signed and issued Decisions on temporary appointment of four Vice Chairmen of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese: Ms. Pham Thi Kim Hoa; Ms. Ngo Thi Thanh Mai; Ms. Nguyen Quynh Mai and Mr. Nguyen Hoai Anh.

*The State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese is a department-level unit under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the function of advising and synthesizing to assist the Minister of Foreign Affairs in performing the task of State management in the field of work with overseas Vietnamese.

The State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese advises the Minister of Foreign Affairs to submit to the Government, the Prime Minister and competent agencies: Draft laws, draft resolutions of the National Assembly; draft ordinances and draft resolutions of the National Assembly Standing Committee; draft decrees and resolutions of the Government; draft decisions and directives of the Prime Minister on work with overseas Vietnamese; Strategies, long-term plans, action programs, important projects and projects of the Government on work with overseas Vietnamese...

The Committee submits to the Minister of Foreign Affairs for consideration and decision: Draft circulars, decisions, directives and other documents on overseas Vietnamese affairs; Long-term, medium-term and annual plans on overseas Vietnamese affairs; organizes the implementation of policies, laws, strategies, plans, programs, projects and proposals on overseas Vietnamese affairs after they are issued or approved by competent authorities; provides professional and technical guidance on overseas Vietnamese affairs according to its authority. At the same time, it is responsible for researching, synthesizing, evaluating and proposing issues of a forecasting and strategic nature related to the situation of the overseas Vietnamese community; supports overseas Vietnamese in stabilizing their lives, integrating into the host society, preserving and promoting the cultural identity, language and fine traditions of the Vietnamese people.

Carry out the work of national solidarity for overseas Vietnamese; care for, facilitate, and attract resources of overseas Vietnamese to serve the country's development; organize support, consultation, and guidance for overseas Vietnamese organizations and individuals in their relationships with the country; support innovation connections. Inform and disseminate the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws, the country's situation, and international treaties that Vietnam has signed and participated in for overseas Vietnamese; coordinate the construction and management of a database on overseas Vietnamese.../.
