Leading global businesses in container shipping and logistics have opened service routes in Vietnam; the two aerospace giants are also present, showing that Vietnam remains an attractive market in the region and the world.
Transoceanic service lines
Currently, there are about 10 foreign shipping lines undertaking container shipping routes from Vietnam to markets in Asia, Europe, the US, and Canada. All are leading shipping lines in the world. Names such as MSC, CMA-CGM, Evergreen, Hapag - Lloyd, Yang Ming, THE Alliance, Pasha all have service routes to Vietnam, showing that we have an attractive import-export market, attracting major shipping lines in the world, forming a market providing container shipping service routes across the ocean, directly to the continents.
More than a year ago, MSC brought the super-large mother ship MSC DITTE, up to 200,148 DWT, to CMIT Port (Ba Ria-Vung Tau). This is the largest mother ship that the company has put into operation in Vietnam, on the Pearl service route of the 2M alliance connecting Vietnam with the west coast of the United States. Since the beginning of 2023, SSIT Port (Ba Ria-Vung Tau) has also welcomed new intra-Asia service routes operated by MSC: the Bengal route connecting Vietnam with North China, Korea, Bangladesh and other Southeast Asian countries; the Shikra route connecting Vietnam with major ports in China, India and other Asian countries. Mr. Phan Hoang Vu, Deputy General Director of SSIT Port, said that currently, the port welcomes 4 intra-Asia service routes and one route to the United States every week.

TiLH's port system has 7 out of the 25 busiest seaports in the world according to annual throughput figures. TiLH was assigned by MSC Group to cooperate with Saigon Port to study and implement the project "Saigon Gateway International Transit Port" in Can Gio, Ho Chi Minh City. This super port project is located right at the mouth of Cai Mep River, on the route of deep-water ports currently being exploited in Cai Mep - Thi Vai area.
The world's leading container shipping lines all have service routes to bring goods from Vietnam to the world.
HOPE
Mr. Nguyen Le Chon Tam, General Director of Saigon Port , commented that international transit activities contribute to reducing the pressure on ports at Cai Mep - Thi Vai when it is forecasted that the volume of domestic goods will exceed the capacity of the ports. There is a favorable opportunity when having the support of MSC when this shipping line transfers transit goods to Vietnam, establishing a new transit center in the region.
In addition, being located at the gateway to Ho Chi Minh City will attract the flow of goods from surrounding countries to the area, creating opportunities to turn the Can Gio - Cai Mep - Thi Vai area into a transit center. And the large economic advantage in scale, strong connectivity network will help reduce transportation costs, create an environment to attract large transportation, logistics, trade and financial companies in the world to set up business headquarters in the area; create job opportunities for the local workforce, promote the national maritime strategy; create an attractive and stable investment environment to attract foreign direct investment; create favorable conditions for domestic shipping enterprises to develop.

Immediately after opening a permanent office in Hanoi, Mr. Steve Biegun, Senior Vice President of Boeing Corporation, had a working session with Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien, in which he mentioned Boeing's business strategy in Vietnam. Specifically, Boeing will cooperate in some specific areas, such as helicopters, transportation and focus more on developing the supply chain in Vietnam.
Most recently, on the afternoon of September 21, in New York (USA), during a meeting with Mr. Brendan Nelson, Senior Vice President of Boeing Corporation and President of Boeing Global, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated Boeing's cooperation and support with Vietnam in the process of operating aircraft, being a reliable partner providing aircraft and services to airlines over the years. The Head of Government suggested that Boeing expand its production and supply chain in Vietnam, soon build a large-scale aircraft equipment and machinery maintenance center and support airlines in this; strengthen cooperation, support human resource training, technology transfer, and bring Vietnamese partners deeper into Boeing's supply chain.
Ten days before this meeting, during the official visit of US President Joe Biden to Vietnam (September 10-11), Boeing agreed to deliver the first aircraft to Vietjet under the order of 200 B737 MAX aircraft. The order worth more than 25 billion USD will be implemented over the next 5 years with the first 12 aircraft delivered in 2024. Boeing and Vietnam Airlines also announced the selection of the B737 MAX aircraft to serve Vietnam Airlines' narrow-body fleet growth strategy, with a commitment to purchase 50 737-8 aircraft, helping Vietnam realize its goal of becoming a leading aviation gateway in the region.

BOEING
At the event "Connecting international supply chains - Vietnam International Sourcing Expo 2023" organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade in coordination with the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee on September 13, the appearance of many US corporations, including Boeing, once again showed the interest of "giant" Boeing in Vietnam. Mr. Maxime Dourdan, Director of Supply Chain Development for Southeast Asia, Japan, and Korea of Boeing Group flew to Vietnam to attend the event. He said that since July 2021, when opening a representative office in Hanoi (now a permanent office), Boeing has focused more on developing the supply chain in Vietnam, looking for new suppliers in Vietnam and this is still continuing. Currently, Boeing's global supply chain has 11,000 suppliers, of which more than 200 suppliers are in Asia and are increasing with 9,500 suppliers from the US.
Another "giant" in the aerospace industry, the European Airbus Group, is also expanding its supply chain in Vietnam. Currently, this group is cooperating with many businesses in the field of aircraft component manufacturing. Specifically, Artus (Meggitt) VN in Ho Chi Minh City provides electromechanical equipment for the A320, A330 and A350 aircraft, while Nikkiso VN in Hanoi has made important contributions in the production of composite structures for the A320 Sharklet aircraft and components for the A330neo and A350 aircraft.
Airbus is also the leading aircraft supplier for airlines in Vietnam. Currently, domestic airlines are operating more than 220 Airbus aircraft and there are 110 aircraft awaiting delivery. Along with the purchase of new aircraft, maintenance, repair, and replacement of components will create a market with huge value. According to statistics, the aviation transport industry creates 2.2 million jobs and contributes 12.5 billion USD, equivalent to 5.2% of Vietnam's GDP.

Airbus increases production, boosts supply in Vietnam
The positive development outlook and Airbus’ increased aircraft production will further boost the activities of suppliers in Vietnam, while opening up opportunities for potential businesses to cooperate with Airbus. These are businesses that can meet our strict requirements for competitiveness, product quality, operational standards and commitment to sustainability in the aviation industry. Ms. Hoang Tri Mai , General Director of Airbus VietnamAirbus Vietnam General Director said that suppliers in Vietnam are also required to demonstrate a commitment to sustainability in their manufacturing activities, in line with Airbus' values, including specific measures to minimize the impact of manufacturing activities on the environment. Also on the topic of sustainable development, in a recent conversation with Thanh Nien reporters, Mr. Michael Nguyen, Director of Boeing Vietnam Company Limited, mentioned Vietnam's roadmap to reduce net zero emissions and shared that Boeing's new office in Hanoi is located in a LEED-certified office building, built to achieve environmentally friendly operational performance, while also having a roadmap to maintain net zero emissions in the future, through efforts to save electricity and water consumption.
Sustainability is a goal for the aerospace industry, in which Boeing has been increasing the use of renewable energy in factories, ordering more sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for commercial flights, and continuing to invest significantly in technology to save fuel, reduce emissions and noise. In the 2023 Sustainability Report recently released by Boeing, it shows the vision and roadmap of this corporation towards a sustainable aerospace future. Specifically, Boeing has been testing about 230 technologies to save fuel, reduce emissions and noise.
Boeing representatives said the group will conduct a joint study to expand the production of SAF in Southeast Asia. SAF (produced from agricultural by-products, oilseeds, used cooking oil, etc.) will play an essential role in activating sustainable growth and helping the commercial aviation industry achieve its goal of net zero emissions by 2050. SAF has the potential to reduce carbon emissions over the fuel lifecycle by up to 80% compared to petroleum-based jet fuel.
Global express delivery group cooperates with Vietnamese bank
DHL Express, the world’s leading international express services provider, has signed a GoGreen Plus service contract with Asia Commercial Joint Stock Bank (ACB). This DHL service helps reduce carbon emissions for international express shipments (TDI) through the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). By investing in GoGreen Plus, ACB is estimated to reduce up to 14 tons of CO2 emissions within 12 months.
The overall emission reductions of the GoGreen Plus service will be verified annually by an independent third-party agency, Société Générale de Surveillance (SGS). In addition, a supplementary Carbon Footprint report will be updated monthly, detailing ACB’s overall emissions from its partnership with DHL Express.
The DHL Group is committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2050 and is investing €7 billion in carbon reduction initiatives by 2030. With around 90% of carbon emissions coming from the aviation network, sustainable and viable air transport solutions are key to creating cleaner, greener logistics. These include two of DHL’s largest agreements to date, with BP and Neste, which will supply DHL with over 800 million liters of SAF by 2026. This will contribute to the interim target of 30% SAF for all air transport by 2030. Similarly, DHL Express has partnered with Eviation and will take delivery of 12 electric cargo aircraft from 2027 onwards.
