(PLO)- The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has just announced the appointment of Korean strategist Kim Sang-sik as head coach of the Vietnam national team.
On May 3, 2024, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and Mr. Kim Sang-sik (Korean nationality) reached consensus and agreement on the contents related to the position of head coach of the Vietnam national team and the Vietnam U-23 team, in a 2-year contract (from May 1, 2024 to March 31, 2026). The contract signing ceremony and announcement of the new head coach of the Vietnam national team and the Vietnam U-23 team will be held on May 6, VFF issued a press release.
VFF said that after a period of urgently researching and reviewing the candidates' profiles, VFF has conducted meetings with potential candidates for the position of head coach of the Vietnam national team and the U-23 team, including Mr. Kim Sang-sik. In the spirit of cooperation, VFF and Mr. Kim Sang-sik discussed the development strategy of the Vietnam national football teams and reached common agreements in a 2-year contract.

Accordingly, Mr. Kim Sang-sik will take on the position of head coach of the Vietnam national team and the U-23 team to participate in football events and international tournaments from May 2024 to March 2026. The first task for the new Korean head coach is to lead the Vietnam team to participate in the remaining two matches in the second qualifying round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Asia, respectively against the Philippines at home on June 6 and against Iraq away in the early morning of June 12.
For the Vietnam U-23 team, new head coach Kim Sang-sik will also be given the best conditions to prepare for the 2026 U-23 Asian qualifiers scheduled to take place in September 2025 and then the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand in December 2025. Coach Kim Sang-sik is trusted and expected to work with the Vietnam U-23 team and the Vietnam U-23 team to successfully achieve the goals set for Vietnamese football in the coming time.
