Stepping stone for important tournaments of U.22 Vietnam
The 2025 Southeast Asian U.23 tournament in August is also ideal for Vietnamese football. This is the time when the 2024-2025 season has ended, the 2025-2026 season has not yet begun. Therefore, when the Vietnam U.22 team competes during this time, coach Kim Sang-sik as well as the VFF will not have to be embarrassed with domestic clubs, and at the same time, Mr. "Sau Sang" will be more comfortable in calling the names of the players he likes to join the national team.

This is also the time when coach Kim Sang-sik has less time to worry about the national team, thanks to avoiding the third round of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers of the Vietnamese team (June and October). Thanks to that, Mr. Kim Sang-sik will have more time to closely monitor his young players, instead of having to hand over the team management to his assistants, like the international friendly tournament in China last March.
For the players, the 2025 Southeast Asian tournament will be a great opportunity for them to demonstrate their abilities in front of coach Kim Sang-sik. Especially the group of new players who have not been called up to the Vietnam U.22 team in the recent past.
This number includes players in the 18-20 age group, such as central defender Dinh Quang Kiet (HAGL), Zan Nguyen (HCMC Club). These are very promising faces, highly appreciated in terms of physique, thanks to their height of over 1.90 m. However, they have not had many opportunities to compete in the V-League in the past, so these players have not been able to compete for a position in the Vietnam U.22 team in the past.
Reviewing the force for the U.23 Asia qualifiers and SEA Games
If they are immediately put into the squad for the most important tournaments of the year for the Vietnam U.22 team such as the 2026 U.23 Asian qualifiers and the 33rd SEA Games, coach Kim Sang-sik will find it difficult to take risks. However, with the U.23 Southeast Asian tournament in August, when the pressure for results is not as great, the Korean coach will have the opportunity to test faces like Quang Kiet or Zan Nguyen.

However, in the context that the top strikers in the 22-year-old group, including Bui Vi Hao and Nguyen Dinh Bac, are injured, Mr. Kim needs to have new factors to improve the quality of the attacking line of the Vietnam U.22 team. Therefore, the U.23 Southeast Asian tournament in August will be the place for the Korean coach to test more of the above-mentioned faces. On the other hand, the strikers themselves, such as Bui Van Binh, Tran Ngoc Son and Tran Gia Bao, will take advantage of opportunities such as the U.23 Southeast Asian tournament, trying to show their ability to be named in the list of candidates for the U.23 Asia qualifiers and the SEA Games taking place this year.
