On April 20, in Ho Chi Minh City, the Ministry of National Defense coordinated with the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics and the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee to organize a national scientific conference on the great victory of Spring 1975 with a new era of development of the Vietnamese nation.

More than 120 papers submitted to the conference and direct exchanges of opinions have clarified the world and regional context in the country, especially in the years 1973 - 1975. At the same time, it has deepened the correct and wise policies and guidelines of the Party Central Committee, the sharp, creative and astute management of the Central Military Commission, the General Command, the Central Bureau and the Regional Command, the proactiveness and flexibility of Party committees at all levels in the process of leading our army and people.

Mr. Huynh Dam, former Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, expressed his appreciation for the strength of national unity in the great victory of spring 1975, and at the same time assessed this as one of the invaluable lessons, with extremely profound and precious meaning.

In which, the solidarity between the army and the people is vividly demonstrated in the resistance war to save the country of our people in general, and in the historic Ho Chi Minh campaign in particular.

"In the Ho Chi Minh campaign, the solidarity between the army and the people was demonstrated eloquently. When the main army units advanced rapidly to occupy important targets in Saigon and Gia Dinh, the people here also rose up in coordination, taking over each area, and welcoming the troops with flags and banners. This not only demonstrated victory but also contributed to maintaining security and order, protecting the achievements of the revolution from the very first hours," Mr. Dam analyzed.

The solidarity of the entire nation, the solidarity of the North and the South, is also shown in extremely difficult and fierce times, when the front line calls, the rear responds, when the rear calls, the front line is ready to share the fire. In which, there is a core role of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam, and the Alliance of Democratic and Peaceful Peoples of Vietnam.

Mr. Huynh Dam proposed that we must pay attention to building the great national unity bloc and in that, we must take care to build a truly strong Fatherland Front, which acts as a political core to gather and promote the strength of the Vietnamese people.

The conference also heard historical witnesses who participated in the campaign share memorable moments in the Ho Chi Minh campaign. Among them, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Huy Hieu, former Deputy Minister of National Defense, told the story of the hand-drawn map of Mrs. Sau Ngau that helped the regiment attack Lai Thieu in the early morning of April 30, 1975.

Ms. Hoang Thi Khanh, Head of the Liaison Committee for Former Political Prisoners and Prisoners of War in Ho Chi Minh City, emotionally recounted the last days of April 1975 at Con Dao Prison, where more than 4,000 people were detained. On the afternoon of May 4, 1975, Con Dao was completely liberated. "Thousands of former prisoners had emaciated bodies and ragged clothes, but everyone's face was bright, happily welcoming the new day," Ms. Khanh said.

In the summary of the conference, General Luong Tam Quang, Minister of Public Security, assessed the opinions presented at the conference as very profound and dedicated, focusing on analyzing, interpreting, and evaluating the great victory of spring 1975 in the era of development of the Vietnamese nation.

Opinions agreed that the 4th National Congress of the Party assessed and at today's conference continued to affirm that the great victory of spring 1975 is a great symbol of the spirit and indomitable will of the Vietnamese people.

At the same time, it affirms that the bravery and intelligence of the Ho Chi Minh era originated from the correct, creative, and talented leadership of the Party, from the people's war policy conducted with the combined strength of the entire nation.

From the combination of military struggle, political struggle, diplomatic struggle, fighting while negotiating and the art of seizing opportunities, concentrating forces to overwhelm the enemy; from the strength of the great rear in the North against the great front line in the South.

Besides, there is the great and effective support and assistance of brotherhood, of the solidarity between Vietnam - Laos - Cambodia, of the people and progressive peace forces around the world.

In particular, the great victory in the spring of 1975 strongly encouraged the movement of people around the world to fight for peace, independence, nation, democracy, and socialism; opened the way for the collapse of neo-colonialism worldwide, creating an important turning point in the history of humanity in the 20th century.

General Luong Tam Quang assessed that along with its great significance and stature of the times, the great victory of spring 1975 left behind valuable lessons in both theory and practice for the revolutionary cause of our Party and nation.

In particular, the strong belief in the Party, the army and the people, the Party's wise and talented leadership, with the Vietnamese spirit and intelligence, created the great victory in the spring of 1975. We will definitely overcome all difficulties and challenges, bringing the country into a new era - the era of national growth, standing shoulder to shoulder with the world powers as President Ho Chi Minh wished and the aspiration of the entire nation.

The Minister of Public Security acknowledged that there are still some documents about the great victory in the spring of 1975 stored in libraries, archives centers or remaining in the memories of witnesses that have not been exploited or widely disseminated.
