Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump announced on August 28 that he had reached an agreement with Democratic candidate Kamala Harris on a debate hosted by ABC on September 10.

In a social media post, Mr. Trump said that the two sides agreed that the rules for the September 10 debate would be the same as the rules for the CNN debate last June between him and President Joe Biden, before Mr. Biden dropped out of the race.

According to Mr. Trump, ABC has assured him that the upcoming debate will be "fair and equal," in which neither side will be provided with questions in advance and candidates will not be allowed to bring notes.

The CNN debate in June had no live audience, and one side's microphone was muted while the other spoke. However, Kamala Harris' campaign has not confirmed the rules for the ABC debate.

Earlier, on August 26, the two candidates' teams argued over the rules of the debate. Ms. Harris's team wanted the microphone to be open throughout the debate, while Mr. Trump's side threatened to withdraw from the debate, citing bias on the TV channel.

On the same day, CNN said that Ms. Harris and her running mate for Vice President Tim Walz will have their first interview with the channel on August 29, during a campaign trip to the battleground state of Georgia.

This is Ms. Harris's first television interview since she replaced President Joe Biden as the Democratic candidate. The interview will be conducted by Dana Bash and will air at 9 p.m. local time (8 a.m. August 30, Vietnam time).

Florida Atlantic University's (FAU) Political Communication Research Lab, the Public Opinion Research Unit (PORL), and pollster Mainstreet Research USA released a nationwide survey on August 28 showing that Ms. Harris received 47% support nationwide. Former President Trump followed with 43% support.
