Host country France has chosen two Vietnamese dishes, pho and spring rolls, to serve athletes at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
According to the menu information published on the homepage of the Paris 2024 Olympics, two Vietnamese dishes, pho and spring rolls, are included in the menu for athletes competing at the Olympics. Of which, pho is the Soup of the Day and is served in three main meals. The homepage also introduces pho as "a monument of Vietnamese cuisine". The ingredients and nutritional information are also clearly stated for athletes to easily refer to. Spring rolls are served vegetarian and suggest options for vegetarian athletes. The Paris 2024 Olympic homepage also introduces the dining area, which will be divided into 6 main areas: 2 French cuisine areas, 1 Asian cuisine area, 1 African cuisine area and 2 other international cuisine areas, served by Michelin-starred chefs. The purpose of this is to give athletes a comfortable dining experience like in their own country, meeting the tastes and cultures of the countries. Mr. Grégoire Béchu, sustainable food project manager at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, said that athletes were asked about their eating habits and preferences before the Olympics so that the organizing committee could meet their needs. "We try to meet all needs and expectations to provide athletes with the best possible food." Each athlete will be free to choose their own food. There will also be a salad bar with more than 30 options, a barbecue and side dishes, a bakery, a hot food buffet, a dessert bar and a variety of fruit. Although athletes usually follow their own competition diet, they can still explore famous cuisines from around the world if they wish. Around 15,000 international athletes will stay in the Olympic and Paralympic Village, with 40 different meals served each day.
Vietnamese cuisine at the 2024 Paris Olympics
Indeed, pho has long been a very familiar name to international friends when referring to Vietnamese cuisine. Along with banh mi, com tam, goi cuon... pho is always in the top Asian cuisines chosen by international culinary sites. With nem cuon, instead of calling it by the familiar name Spring roll, the organizers specially introduced nem as a Vietnamese dish made from thin rice rolls, filled with vegetables, vermicelli and various types of meat.Ingredients and nutritional information of pho and spring rolls - Photo: screenshot
