Within the framework of attending the Conference of the Council of Ministers of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), on the morning of June 6 in Paris (France), Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son met with OECD Secretary General Mathias Cormann.
Expressing his pleasure at meeting Secretary General Mathias Cormann again, Minister Bui Thanh Son highly appreciated the good cooperative relationship between Vietnam and OECD, demonstrated through many important cooperation results such as OECD's policy advisory reports for Vietnam, technical assistance programs, and capacity building in many fields.
Minister Bui Thanh Son welcomed the two sides' completion of the Action Program to implement the Vietnam-OECD Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to enhance cooperation for the 2022-2026 period.
The Minister suggested that OECD continue to promote policy consulting support to help Vietnam restructure its economy, innovate its growth model based on science and technology development, promote innovation and digital economy; coordinate and provide consulting support to Vietnam on new issues such as global minimum tax, carbon emission reduction, environmental protection, etc.

In addition, the Minister also asked OECD to support in finding resources to implement cooperation projects between the two sides; support Vietnam to fulfill its role as Co-Chair of the Southeast Asia Program (SEARP) 2022-2025, first of all, to organize the 2nd Southeast Asia-OECD Ministerial Forum in October 2023.
OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann thanked Minister Bui Thanh Son for attending the 2023 OECD Council Ministerial Meeting, demonstrating Vietnam's active role and contribution as Co-Chair of the Southeast Asia Programme.

Expressing his impression of Vietnam's socio-economic development achievements, the Secretary-General affirmed that OECD will continue to accompany Vietnam in the process of developing the economy in a green and sustainable direction, and is ready to send experts to support Vietnam in implementing regulations related to global minimum tax.

The Secretary-General also emphasized that the OECD attaches importance to the role of the Southeast Asian region, thanking Vietnam, as Co-Chair, for promoting the Southeast Asia Program to be increasingly effective and practical, and agreed to coordinate with Vietnam to prepare well for the 2nd OECD-Southeast Asia Ministerial Conference at Vietnam's initiative in October in Hanoi.
