According to drivers, at around 4:00 p.m. the same day, on the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway lane from Ho Chi Minh City to Binh Thuan, a 7-seat car appeared driving in the opposite direction, close to the construction protection fence. The road just passed the intersection of Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway and National Highway 51.
According to a driver who witnessed the incident, the driver of the 7-seat car intentionally drove in the wrong direction to get to Highway 51. "Perhaps the driver wanted to get to Highway 51 but went the wrong way. If he continued, he would have to go to Dau Giay intersection before turning back very far. Driving in the wrong direction on the highway like that is extremely dangerous, as the maximum speed on this route is up to 120km/h," a driver commented.
The authorities have contacted the driver of the car that violated traffic laws and invited him to come in for questioning. The section of road where the car was driving in the wrong direction is under construction at the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway intersection.
For driving in the wrong direction on the highway, drivers can be fined 16-18 million VND, have their driver's license revoked for 5-7 months, and have their vehicle impounded for 7 days.
