This Forbidden Forest has been specially preserved by the villagers and considered a treasure for centuries. Dai Binh village (Que Trung commune, Nong Son district, Quang Nam province) leans against the majestic Truong Son mountain range, facing the gentle Thu Bon river.
This place is blessed by nature with fertile land, suitable for growing many kinds of fruit trees. In particular, in the middle of the village there is a primeval forest strictly protected by the people, called the Forbidden Forest.

In fact, the villagers do not call this the Forbidden Forest, but simply call it the Forbidden Forest. No one knows when the forest first existed, but this place has always been a familiar destination for the villagers to collect firewood, pick vegetables, and search for precious herbs. They consider this place a precious treasure, preserved and passed down through many generations.
With an area of 11.5 hectares, this forest is located right in the center of Dai Binh village. Every time the flood season comes, the Thu Bon River surges, threatening to submerge the entire village. At this time, Cam forest becomes a safe haven for the people.
Seen from above, the Forbidden Forest acts as a shield protecting the village from storms and floods. The interwoven system of trees and tangled vines creates a giant "air conditioner", bringing cool air to the whole village.
Dai Binh people clearly understand that, in addition to the abundant underground water source from the Thu Bon River, the Forbidden Forest is a valuable ecological "regulator", playing an important role in protecting the village. There are no regulations, sanctions, or guards, but the Forbidden Forest has still existed majestically for hundreds of years, creating a unique picture of "village in the forest" and "forest in the village".

The locals here are proud that they live long because they breathe the fresh air from this primeval forest. Cam is also a source of precious medicinal plants and fruit trees, helping people overcome difficult times.
It was not until 2017 that the village had a written village covenant to supplement the 1988 convention.
"Article 16 stipulates the protection and development of the Forbidden Forest. Perhaps because they understand the valuable effects of the Forbidden Forest, every citizen is self-conscious in preserving it, not encroaching, cutting down trees or hunting animals... Not only that, every year on holidays, Tet, festivals, the government and associations and organizations mobilize people to plant new forests in vacant land areas," said a resident of Dai Binh village.
Currently, Cam Forest still retains its value as a primeval forest with a diverse ecosystem and many large trees. The forest plays an important role as a "green lung", creating spatial harmony and ecological regulation for Dai Binh village.
In terms of resources, according to the initial assessment of Da Lat University, Cam Forest owns 10 groups of valuable timber and medicinal plant resources. To protect and develop the forest, every year the locality organizes additional tree planting in vacant areas. In particular, in 2023, the Management Board of the Elephant Species and Habitat Conservation Area of Nong Son District in coordination with Que Trung Commune implemented a program to bring orchids back to the forest, grafting donated orchid varieties onto trees in Cam Forest.
Although the area is not too large, Cam forest is still a place to preserve many rare and precious trees such as huynh dan, giang huong, mit nai, mu u, trai trees... In particular, Cam has 51 huynh dan (sầu wood) trees, which are rare and precious trees belonging to group IA in the Vietnam Red Book. This type of wood is always appreciated for its value and durability, and has a fragrant smell even after being soaked in mud for many years. Therefore, sưa wood is also likened to "exposed gold blocks".
In recent years, Cam Mountain has become increasingly known to tourists who come to visit and relax. Currently, the road to Cam has been paved with flat concrete, so people and tourists can easily move to the edge of the forest, instead of having to walk for hours like before.
Leading into the forest is a winding path full of flowers, leaves, and grass. The chirping of the starling bird blends with its friends on the tops of the trees covered with vines, making visitors feel as if they are lost in a fantasy world.
